Deep carry - Help me out here

I'm glad where i am I don't have to and dont feel like I need to, hide my knife......

To be honest too much of the time I hide it because I don't want people asking to use it. Because they take my really nice edge and do something stupid with it. It got so bad I started carrying a cadet to hand to people to save my actual knives.

I don't care for deep clips either. It's more difficult to take the knife out of my pocket, and I really don't think it fools anyone. I like big knives, so there's less of a chance they will fall out. If you're somewhere that you don't want anyone to see it, then just drop the knife in your pocket and forget about the clip during those times. I do that regularly.

NOPE , NOT JUST YOU.
I TOTALLY agree.
The only time I carry a deep carry is when it comes that way from the factory.
I've even been guilty of removing clips entirely and carrying the knife in a belt pouch (Cold Steel Ti Lite )

OH MY GOSH ! LOOK AT THAT BELT POUCH !
HE MUST BE A WILD MAN !
IF ONLY HE HAD A DEEP CARRY CLIP ON THAT DANGEROUS WEAPON I COULD RELAX !
😒🙃🥴

Among my son's friends, a man wearing a pouch is assumed to be carrying a gun. My son doesn't carry, but he works with a lot of fellas who do. So expectations on belt pouches can vary. You might want to make your assumptions accordingly.

That's going to depend a lot on the clip. So, not a fair comparison.
if I made it to serious, it wouldn't be as funny.....still though to this day no matter the deep carry clips or color....many folks know its a knife. even not knife people have the internet and have seen a knife clip. clips have been around a very long time.

I can take or leave deep carry clips. If I am carrying a knife that folds, then I really don't care if it's visible.

I do appreciate having something deeper in my pocket that doesn't get hung up on things, but I kinda dig the high sitting grip of my Para 3. It's a small knife as it is, so being able to get it out of my pocket to use without having to pinch it and drag it out makes for easier deployment.

Man.. I just realized that I have never once been concerned about someone knowing I have tool in my pocket. Never even crossed my mind that could make someone uncomfortable. Are they worried we'll go all Friday the 13th on them or something?

Bet they really lose it when a fellow has to chop a tree down. Or in a kitchen. At the barber shop.

That's a them problem, not a me problem. lol

Doesn’t matter a ton to me. In my line of work and among those I hang around with, pretty much everyone has a knife clipped to their pocket so discretion isn’t a huge concern for me.

My edc of the last few years does have a deep carry clip but that wasn’t a factor when I purchased it. Not a huge difference in terms of grabbing and using it in my opinion maybe I’m just used to it.

Second, I have had on many, many occasions had my folder yanked from my pocket without me knowing while working or playing.

Me too. Almost lost one of my most valuable folders that way. Was pulled out of the pocket by my jacket. Found it later in the drive way.

For all you guys that don't care if your knife is visible, why don't you carry a fixed blade ?

I've never had issues with people noticing me carrying a folder or a fixed blade, in CA that is. Still, I prefer deep clips, or no clips at all.

Why is a quick draw important? Are you seeking knife fights on lonely Saturday evenings? LOL. For me it is a non-issue.

I like a deep clip because it often prevents the knife from being pushed out my pocket when I sit down.

I have lost a few knives this way over the years and the deep clip, while not perfect, goes a long way to preventing this.

Fixed blades get in the way at work. Outside of work I often carry a fixed.

Carrying fixed blades is illegal in my state (MA)

It's less about "quick" and more about "sure grip" and "drawn without having to think about it". It's like any other thing on my person, I don't want to have to work to take it out. Oftentimes I'll need to grab it while holding something or focusing on something in my other hand. I like being able to reach down and draw my knife easily and confidently without breaking my focus on what I'm doing. The deep carry lifted my whole pant leg up and wouldn't come out, so I had to re-adjust my grip, wiggle it out, and then almost dropped it because of the small amount of handle I had to work with. I don't like that. I'm used to standard Spyderco clips, where there's enough of the handle sticking out that I can just grab it, and never had a problem before.

I've since learned that if I rotate my grip 90 degrees (so that my thumb is where the knife's edge is inside the handle and my forefinger is on the same side as the switch, I can pinch it and draw it out like that, but I still don't feel like i have a good purchase on the handle that way.

But the best way I've found so far (at least with this knife) is to just not fully clip it. I make sure it's clipped enough to hold, but part of the handle is still sticking out. It doesn't help that this Kershaw has such a short clip. I love this knife, but I honestly HATE this clip. I may just remove the damn thing and just keep it in my pocket with no clip at all (I have a dedicated knife pocket, I usually wear 5.11 Taclite pants) so I'm not worried about losing it.
