Just curious how deer season is going for everyone? I have a couple does in the freezer and still holding a buck tag hoping the big one walks by. We are down to just a few days of archery only season then the lead can start to fly.

Hope all my hunting friends are having a great season. Feel free to post pics if you would like and be sure to include which Busse did the dressing.

I'll have to see when deer season is here. I don't have anything to take one down but I've been considering getting a crossbow. I wanted to get a traditional longbow, but I can't find one that's not for kids. I don't know why but I haven't considered compound bows yet... I've seen a couple of decent bucks walk through my yard.

I got my thanksgiving turkey the other day  That's the biggest game I've dropped so far and only because I got him in the neck. My girlfriend laughed at me because I already skinned it. She said it's going to dry out when I cook it. I've only been playing mountain man since April, so I've still got a lot to learn. I can still get one more this season, so next time I'll do it right.

The next thing I want to learn how to do is tan hides. I asked the guy at target if they had any books on tanning. He looked at me funny until I specified that I wasn't talking about Jersey Shore tanning...

My personal update: I'm over it. People waiting until the last minute to sight in their guns, wanting slugs that haven't been made in 10 years, explaining how some handgun rounds are legal in rifles but if you want to hunt with a rifle round to do it in a pistol.

I'm already over muzzelloader season, and that starts in a couple weeks. I can just imagine the flood of people saying that they haven't fired and cleaned their muzzelloader in 5 years, wanting to know if it's in good enough condition to hunt in and to see if the powder and seated ball (5 years old) will still go boom. Or the old Knights where people neglected them and had a bunch of powder gunk in the trigger mechanisms, causing it to seize up, but wanting in in working condition in 2 days.

So yup, I'm over deer season. Just can't wait until Christmas time :foot:

On a related note, had a solid 8 pointer jump in front of my truck the other night.

I missed him.

Well Garth I am with you.I have killed 2 does during archery season and gun season started today but I have not gun hunted in 16 years. My brother killed a 3 pt this morning and then a 9 pt this evening with a 22 inch spread. He lives 350 miles south of me.I am considering going down there and gun hunting with my handgun. With open sights I can hit a pie plate everytime at 100 yards with my Ruger 454 Casull.

Late archery opens on 11/21 here in Washington. Hope to get it done, and hoping the NMFSHLE is here to help.

First, congrats to all who got 'em, and good luck to those going after 'em.

I've got 3 so far, 2 does and an 8 point buck (not a real big buck, but respectable, about 150lbs or so dressed out). I got one of the does and the buck at the same time last friday. Same knife has been used for all, and I couldn't imagine a better one for the job - a Custom Shop Dog Skinner. Oh, and I also got one coyote earlier in the season. Here's pics of the buck and Dog Skinner.

OMG!!! GREG45 SHOT RUDOLPH!!! :D

Season good here, too. Daughter got a nice 8 pt and I popped a fat doe. Need another doe or two to fill the freezer for the year and I'll be good to go.

Meaner street has done cleaned and skinned both... including cutting through the rib cage. Still shaves arm hair...

I had good intentions of spending more time in the woods this fall, but I had so many other things going on that it didn't really happen. And on the few short times I did get out, I didn't have my heart in it. Its hard to get too excited right now; several harsh winters and an overabundance of wolves have really taken their toll on the deer population. My friends that have gone haven't seen anything.

...although I did see 3 decent sized bucks in my neighbor's front yard during a late night dog walk last night.

My first hunt begins next friday. We're heading up to Brady Texas, and from what the owner of the property is reporting, there are a LOT of deer up there this year.

I have been a hunter for my entire life. I've killed pigs, yotes, squirrel, pheasant, coons, and more, but until last year, i had NEVER had a shot at a deer. My father in law took me with him to his yearly hunting spot in Brady last year, and my first morning in a stand, i dropped a nice doe. I was PUMPED, but that paled in comparison to the 9 point buck that i dropped 5 hours later, while stalking through the brush and trees in the back of the property

Hopefully this year, the deer will be bigger. Last years drought really took a toll . Action shots of my new Hog Muck still to come :)

nothin yet as i do not hunt bow, opening day is sat here in NYS. got a new mauser in .243 and I WILL bring home a nice buck with it lol

Got one Tuesday night......with my wife`s brand new Escape (which we got 4 weeks ago when my Jeep was stolen, been having some great luck lately.) We were coming home from visiting my grandaughter in the hospital, when an oncoming truck hit it with his front corner, and threw it into our lane. Wife, other grandaughter, and myself are all ok, but the car will be in the shop for awhile. A bit over $9000 for repairs, thank goodness for insurance!

I have butchered 16 so far for friends and family (and myself). Its kinda crazy since shotgun doesn't start till next weekend. That is usually when I get a big rush of deer to process. Good luck to everyone this season.

Have had a large bodied 8 point in the back yard visiting the last several weeks. I don't like the taste of them but enjoy watching em.

Have spent most of my time before and after work in the woods. Have tags left but just not seeing the ones I want. Well I have seen them just not within bow range. Had lots of smaller does around but keep letting them walk hoping for something bigger. I have meat in the freezer so thats good. Now I want horns.

I had some luck last week... I admit it, I am a trophy hunter. I fill up the freezer early and chase big racks after that. This guy wasn't my biggest, but he may have been my best. I was on a soy bean field that was about 200 yds x 400 yds and this guy owned the place, he was 5.5 years old and weighed at least 250 pounds. When he came out, all the other bucks bolted! You can't get a great idea of the body size in the photos, but he looked like a keg covered in fur, super blocky.

I'm going to start another thread for the trophy I found on this trip...
