Deer season updates.........

I agree that the lack of a rifle season is probably why we have some really big deer. I understand why they don't let people use rifles but I do not think that should pertain to me. I am special, just ask my mom.

Congrats to all that scored:cool:

Remember...the reason OH, and IL have such monster dear is cause there is no rifle season:D

Granted you have genetics but if you don't believe Me look at Missouri where they shoot rifles:)

I thought it was becasue they are all corn fed. When you go to Southern Ohio where there isn't as much corn the bodies and antlers get smaller.

I think it is absolutely stupid that we can't use pistol caliber carbines though like the .44 Mag

I knew that would get some action:D

Yes Garth you are special and if I was warden I'd say go ahead;)

As far as corn goes it does help fatten for harsh winter but your acorns carry a lot more protein. That black dirt doesn't hurt anything either: thumbup:

Actually age is the primary reason bucks get big. Besides genetics and strain of deer overall species age is what determines size. Til bout age 5 deer are still growing their bones in the rest of body. Not til they are fully mature does Nearly 100 percent bone growth go to antler growth

and I'm a fan of rifles....much safer and lord knows I've cussed my muzzleloader more than once. I

ts just the only positive I could give you. -You have bigger deer:)

I asked a Game warden about this once and his answer was that a 44mag coming out of a revolver can't travel as far as a 44mag coming out of a rifle. LOL.
Doesn't make much sense to me. With modern slugs and the advancement of muzzleloaders over the years you can shoot farther than what a 44 mag out of a lever action is going to. Just a case of misinformation at a higher level if you ask me.

A spike with the muzzle loader an 8 point with the rifle.
Skinned with a SAR 3!

Good weeked on a buddies place- love the 8 pt

Coming up on the last week of black powder here in Mn. So far nothing in the freezer and only one sighting.

On the same ranch over 10 years ago we had to kill 113 does to keep the population in balance. I learned then I needed a decent knife. I used 6 different blades that year and didn't realize until now how little I knew about steel, grinds and ergo's and what it takes to make a good one. To bad I didn't find Busse until a year ago.

Holy Crap. That is awesome.

Heck, I just about swallowed my coffee down the wrong pipe. Well, Im awake now for sure:D

Thats a weekend for the record books:cool:

RWT, when you having us over for a hunt;) I promise to shoot a lot of coyotes, hogs, and does if you let me at one of them monsters:thumbup: :D

This ranch does not allow shooting your troph buck until after Thanksgiving. This gives them a chance to breed. Surprisingly two of these deer are considered management bucks as they don't score more than 140 and are less than 10 pts with an undesirable trait, ( short brow tines or weak tine length). This is a friends high fence ranch with unlimited protein so they get a chance to eat and grow old. Believe me it is much harder hunting than most people think due to the rules of the ranch. I've hunted ranches like this for weeks straight to get a specific animal and still never saw them. I am not talking about trophy deer either, even 3 1/2 yr old management bucks can be hard to find on a high fence given the terrain and size of the ranch. Sometimes they never show. The greatest advantage of the high fence is it keeps all the other animals out and allows you to pass on young deer with potential.

Didn't realize that there were that many restrictions. It suck waiting for a deer . I can not imagine having to wait for a specific deer. I bet that can be nerve racking.

I posted a thread over in the Hunting/Fishing section, but I know a lot of you hardcore Busse guys seldom leave this forum. I field dressed (though I did use my CS Voyager to make a starting incision) this one with a Busse CABS so I kinda feel obligated to post it, see in as there are many who feel that Busse fixed blades are show pieces. Wanted to get a picture of the CABS bloody, but didn't :(

Got a 10 pt walking around in my woods right behind my houses and found a run he's coming back to. No deer yet.
