I've only had it a little while so I haven't done a whole lot with it yet, but I'm definitely feeling some love for the H.E.S.T.. While I do normally carry larger knives in the woods, this knife is exactly right for the urban environment I live in. It is small enough to be unobtrusive, yet big enough to function very well, good and stout, extremely sharp, and very comfortable. It's even color coordinated with the new green khaki pack!

It's really comfortable in multiple grips and so far the pry bar pommel hasn't gotten in my way at all, or at least not yet.

Here are a couple of pics that may help put it's size in perspective for some people with it side by side with my Swiss Army Soldier Knife Which I am assuming is the same size as the OHT.

It comes extremely sharp! I've only used it a little so far getting some gear together for a coming project. The wire cutting notch...though I haven't tried it on wire yet...hasn't interfered with my ability to whittle.

I really like the little hollow cavity in the handle, it's a good spot to hide a couple of things that could come in handy later. Like a small ferro rod and a little cash.

You whittle good enough, you could probably whittle an excellent set of darts for a Cold Steel Magnum Blowgun. (Excellent piece of gear, BTW.)

Thanks, I didn't whittle the whole thing...it's one of the bamboo skewers my shrimp came on at Red Lobster last weekend :) My whittled skewers aren't usually so semetrical lol.

Now that you have your HEST, maybe you're wanting to get rid of your SOG bowie? (hint hint). I think I may know someone who's interested...

Nice writeup

Been looking forward to this review since you first mentioned you were planning to get a HEST. The more I hear about it, the more love I feel for it. How do you plan to carry it in an urban environment? Pocket? Necker?

Thanks man, I've been looking forward to it since I figured out the dimensions of the HEST. I have a Janus extension pouch coming next week and the plan is to secure it inside there right on my chest when I'm wearing the pack.

By the way, I'll do pics tomorrow or this weekend but I was just using the chest lever grip and you'd have to have hands bigger than mine for the pommel to be uncomfortable.

Too late...someone else beat you to it...and if I ever figure out who I have another knife I'd like to show them ;)

Thanks man, glad you like it so far.

Great review! Good to see you get your hands on one and put it through a little workout.

cant wait to get mine! going to to pair it up with a pair of insulated heavy duty wire cutter,/crimper pliers, voltage tester, flashlgiht, TOPS pry bar and a pair of gloves. An excellent urban EDC kit.

Thanks Rock, I've been playing with it off and on since it got here. I really like this thing. I can't wait to get it out in the world.

Yeah, I'm still figuring out which small tools I want to add to mine. I have a multi-tool but I'm think a few other things instead...or with it.

Thanks for the pics, definitely helps give a better idea of the size. I just can't get past the pommel spike. It's just unnatural and completely different then every other knife I've ever handled and to be honest, because of that, I believe I would just end up hurting myself. Probably cut myself with the blade because I was trying to be "aware" of the spike.

REMMMM, you got a BK2? The pommel on the BK2 is a tad hair shorter than the pom on the HEST. You dont even notice it.

take a knife you got now, and duct tape on a cardboard pommel to try it out in your hand

Trust me. It isn't a big deal at all. You can safely forget it's there until you need it.

I really like the pommel, more pics of why later on this weekend or next week when I get the Janus.
