Definitely Feeling Some Love For The RAT H.E.S.T.

Well...I didn't get to get downtown yet, or even out in the woods, but after we got a little more than our predicted 1/2 inch of snow today I used the HEST in it's sheath to clear the snow from around my wipers after it got packed and the wipers couldn't go down all the way....not sure where my scraper went...been so long since i needed it.

Last night I snapped a shot of my new toys...as seen on her new toys :)

This afternoon I got an e-mail from Knife Center:
PLEASE NOTE: There are one or more items on this order currently not in stock. We have placed it on backorder. Your entire order should ship within 5-7 business days, if not sooner. Please note that your credit card will not be charged until we ship your order.
So it won't be three to four weeks for my HEST to arrive, but five to six. Caspita! :(

You'd think they'd just tell you what was out of stock and give you the option of waiting on those items in another order.

I've gotten to the point that if I want to order a piece of gear or especially a knife from someplace that doesn't specifically state it's in stock, I call or e-mail them first. I've been burned a couple of times by the 'net retailer game of "We'll get your credit card number first THEN let you know it's not actually in stock".

It just took once for me to start asking questions...my first online knife order in fact. an on-line company gave me the run around about a knife saying they would send it when they got it in. This went on for two months and then I found out from Ka-Bar that the knife had been discontinued over a year before and that there was very little chance they would ever get one. It took me another month and some well worded threats to convince them to just give me my money back.

That's the problem, Knife Center stated it as "in stock".

I took it out for a bit this morning checking it out in a little field craft. It's a small-ish knife but using a two finger grip, which the pry bar really comes in handy for by the way, I was able to chop so far and then break some solid branches really quickly.

Then batoning them went really well, the handle scales never loosened or gave me any problems at all.

Then I decided to try something a little bigger so I tried it on a piece of seasoned, forked, Black Walnut. And that was no problem either and still no loosening of the scales. I'm liking RAT's system of adding scales to skeletonized handles, I will likely get some for my Izula...that should be here tomorrow...if they ever start making any tan ones.

I used it with a baton to split off some pieces of fatwood off of a fatwood log I found a while back.

Then I did a little whittling with it. First in fatwood, and then a piece of Black Birch I found laying around. I am well pleased with how it handles and how it cuts.

You can always tell when I really like something when I end up getting multiples...at least when I can afford it. I'm reeeally liking the H.E.S.T.

I even like the bottle opener as my knife is usually the easiest thing for me to get my hands on :D
