DEK1

The DEK1 handle does look unusual. I can't think of another knife that has a similarly shaped handle, though that really does not mean anything. My hands are largish and it is supremely comfortable when I hold it. I really wonder why I don't see more handles like this.

A handle story: I had a Jerry Fisk custom Sendero once and noticed the handle was not exactly symmetrical. I asked Jerry about it thinking that maybe he could correct the asymmetry on the underside. He told me that was certainly possible, but that the asymmetry was intentional and explained why. I never did have him make any change to that knife and I learned something new.

wave it around some and transfer to and from various grips. If you want to practice, put tape over the edge. Get fast.

stick it down your pants and feel how it rides, get used to it hanging out in the waistband. Always carry it whenever possible.

cut your food, open a box, clean your fingernails. Find that edge and always know where it is.

it will be there for you, and will stay with you- if you learn its secrets.

I'm glad you said "clean your fingernails" AFTER "cut your food". ;):D

My DEK1 is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its handle and its blade. I will keep my DEK1 clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will...

...keep it in our pants

Not sure why, but the DEK1s with double black are sharper than the others, their edges tougher and harder. They also seem to attract the opposite sex more for some reason, something Nathan failed to mention in his FS posts. :D

And they give you the ability to see around corners
