That's 2001 in Chinese characters (二 means 2, 千 means thousand, 零 means 0, and 一 means 1), that's the year 2001, and the panda coin was the 2001 edition.

You will see my Isle of Man cat Sebenza very soon.
 
I thought the 1999 ones only came in Buckeye, what wood is that? The grain is outstanding!!
 
I have learned a great deal about Sebenza nomenclature from this thread. Thank you. I like the classic.
