Howdy. I would say that the USN is totally worth it.

There's probably no higher percentage of LEO or military on there than on any other knife / gun forum, and they've got their own subforums in which they can and probably do post things that would upset my own delicate libertarian sensibilities. I don't go in those sections, and they don't bother me.

It's the place to be for Strider Knives, without a doubt.

Loads of wicked custom makers participating on the forum, and all manner of beautiful custom knives being shown off or sold. I've spent a lot of time just browsing through pictures on there.

I'm in my first year of paid membership, and I've spent a great deal of money in their for sale section, The Cove. The membership fee is trivial in comparison.

It's definitely worth paying for one year to check it out ... if you don't like it, don't renew. I intend to renew my membership.

:thumbup:Thanks a lot Disaster Monkey!

That's what I want to hear.Big varieties of (hard to find) knives being sold & traded by good, honest people.

anyone else??

Not worth it at all.

I wouldn't pay a dime to a site that has a BS "leadership" structure, strict monitoring of your posts, censorship up the butt and all around elitist attitude. You can spend 400 bucks anywhere to get cool stuff, do it in a place that makes your day better, like Bladeforums.

Thats just my own experience bro, I paid the money, went through the BS, joined up for the SoCal posse, saw the sites and decided, it wasn't for me.

Mind you I speak my mind on occasion and defend my position here, there you say yessir, thank you and move on like in the corps. :D

I know alot of people that truly love the USN and bully for them, it's just not my cup of tea.

I heard the exact same things when I first read about the USN. I've now been a paying member for over a year and wouldn't have it any other way.

Cross forum posting/bashing is really frowned upon.

If you want to ask a question about another forum ask it on that forum.

Expect this one to be locked soon.

I was on USN about 10 years ago when it was founded. After the Army, I couldn't get on. Screw em... I'm on too many forums as is.

i dont see this as cross forum bashing.

lots of members here are members there, and its tough to ask a question there when you either are not a member or cannot become a member.

nothing wrong with getting some opinions of the culture.

I agree. The OP's just asking & I would think this section is as good as any to ask. There're no links & the OP's not bashing, he's asking about it.

I believe some of the issues of getting on USN is that you need a paying Internet address (Like Verizon, one of the cable Internet providers, etc). I think addresses from free sites (Like yahoo, hotmail, google, etc) aren't allowed to join. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that was my initial problem in joining. I still had a problem even using my paid Internet addy, but an email to them fixed that.

I've lurked for awhile, never did a paid membership, so I can't say if it's worth it or not.

I have been on USN for around 3 years and have found the people quite congenial and helpful. A lot of makers have a presence there and have active forums. I would say that a $35 level membership would get your feet wet and allow access to the important areas.

That said, I still prefer BF. ;)

My experience was similar. I found them to be hypocritical really. On the one hand they preach 'understanding' and 'tolerance' with a live and let live attitude even going so far as to make sticky posts about how just because someone, maybe even your neighbor there on the forums voted for Obama or has a religious stance you disagree with that we should all get along not forgetting we are neighbors yet on the other hand their actions in dealing with me seem to indicate otherwise and that these rules only apply to you and not the guys that are in charge. Do as I say, not as I do kind of rulership. I've got a copy of a thread someone from there sent me with some of the admin, ( the guys apparently preaching this tolerance attitude) bad mouthing me even going so far as to tell one of my customers that I have a skewed sense of honor and integrity and even putting words in my mouth as if I asked them about it first which never happened. Quite frankly the thought to ask permission from anyone as to what I could post or could not post on another forum is a ridiculous proposition to begin with. This is one of the Admin. there and a guy I've never had any dealings with at all! Never once have we even spoken or shared an email or private message and he is coming in there saying that about me!? Basically it proves they jumped to conclusions about another based on hearsay which is exactly what they preach shouldn't happen.

Get this though. I was being put on list of people they were banning from their forum that made a post they didn't like on another forum! When I decided after that to just resign my membership voluntarily rather than wait for the boot which I got on good word was coming, I simply cleaned up my account and wrote one of the higher ups there personally, (he knows who he is) and he confirmed everything I was told about being booted by telling me in an email reply I still have by the way, that and I quote "thats okay, you were put on a list of people we were banning anyway, I'll expedite your request" and I was banned by request with my screen name showing banned by his own request to this day I guess.

Then from my understanding of some of my customers that wasn't good enough for the admin there and it didn't stop there. Now I come to find out that it was my fault and I wanted to leave the USN according to the guy in admin that posted about me to one of my customers. This is how they presented it and others were told publically that I obviously didn't want anything to do with the USN blah blah blah was what the jist of it was, which is all bull shit!

If they had bothered to look they'd have known that I was an upstanding member there, liked it there a lot, paid to belong there, donated knives in auctions there, never broke one single rule there or had one infraction for anything at all! I was forced out by them and going to be banned for something I wrote on another forum that didn't even have anything to do with them and then they turn around and make it all me wanting nothing to do with the USN. I'd still belong there if they had just lived by their so called code of Bushido or whatever its called! But like I said, actions speak louder than words. Tolerance of others but only if you belong to the USN is what I'm gettin' because apparently you are not even allowed to post work that is done by non members without being told by admin how 'we don't support non members on this forum' or banned members and so on. Apparently the entire knife industry revolves around the 20K or so member base on that small forum and if you are not a member of that small click then you don't rate. Go figure. Join if you like walking on egg shells until you piss off the wrong guy with a badge and a button to boot you because some types, if you give em a little power they can't handle it.

Has something changed over there ? The only thing I thought you could not get in w/ out a paid "Cove" (the exchange) membership, was the "Cove".All the knifemakers sub forums & dealers,I am almost positive you can get to see those with basic membership.I have not posted over there in a while,I am a member, though. OP,fwiw, maybe you just need to try it out for yourself,as every individual, will have an individual experience .
