Delica 5

a delica the size of a spyderco dragonfly with a wire clip. I like knives with the size of a Boker Subcom, Kershaw OD-2, and the SOG flash 1.

I wish they still offered SE. I picked up a British racing green zdp se delica, and the SE is perfect for my work (opening lots of parts boxes, never break them down because we send the old parts back in the same box).

with SE, I can just drag the belly of the edge across the tape, instead of having to stick the blade between the flaps to cut the tape.

Another idea would be to have serrations on the forward edge of the blade, sort of like the A.G. Russell SeaMaster. That way, you'd get the cutting performance that ctk writes about, but you'd have a length of edge behind the serrations, for cutting twine, opening letters, etc., anything where a plain edge would be better, but you'd have the 'push-cut' ability of those forward teeth.

Choil and low rider pocket clip would be nice. These are the two main reasons I rarely EDC my Delicas anymore. I guess I've been spoiled by the Caly3.

No Photoshop here. This is the real deal. I bought two white FRN Delicas and dyed them orange. One was interchanged with the blade and hardware from an all black Delica and the other got a FFG blade from a current Delica.

I'll buy the black and Orange one from u

The delica 4 is doesn't need any major changes but, it would be nice to have a sprint run of a Delica, made in the USA, with S30V or S35VN, with the saber grind.

I really dig the blade shape on the waved Delica, but I don't really care for the feature itself. Has anyone bought a Delica wave and ground off the extra bit to round out the deployment hole? I think the Delica 5 would look cool with this kind of styling...

Hmmm... ;)

That sounds very,......strange.:D i guess all of the extra steel on the spine really dosent do anything but add weight,
I think it would be cool if they came out with a delica that had other blade shapes like a clip point or something.

let's get a full flat grind and wire clip in there...and a compression lock. Then I'd be all over it. Maybe make an upscale model of it too with cf scales or g10. Oh, and I want a finger choil too.

So I guess what I'm saying is, I want a para 2 with a wire clip...but perhaps smaller and cheaper...

Fix the handle. The hump sits right where the middle finger goes. It should be a ditch there, not a hump.

1. Eliminate the ricasso and have the blade edge extend down to the handle just like the centofante

2. remove steel liners. FRN is strong enough, why bother with the extra weights

3. Acute tip

4. The handle is tad to long, reduce the handle to 4" or slightly under

5. make ffg standard

+1 on items 2, 3, & 5! I love the blade shape on my Delica 3. So Delica 3 shape with full flat grind, no liners, and I would prefer a choil.

I agree with Unit - a 50/50 choil would be very nice on a Delica. Add in a low-riding wire clip and I'm sold.

Instead of making so many changes to the Delica, that it no longer resembles the family lineage, why not just a new model.

I mean if you put a choil on a Delica, then pretty much every knife in that size range that Spyderco sells would have a choil. Some of us don't like them.
I like the FFG blade but I also like the saber ground blade. It's nice to have the option.

A Delica with a FFG, choil and wire clip is pretty much a Caly 3. Or at least really close to it.

However, I have several Delicas in their current configuration that if it does happen to get changed to where it no longer resembles a Delica, I'm already set and good to go. :D

I have a couple of Byrd Meadowlarks. Old and new. They have the choil. It's okay, but I prefer the Delica because it doesn't have the choil.

I guess, to each their own.

I just think there's room in the knife world for a Delica that stays in the same line that it's always been in and another knife that's similar but different.

Part of my preference is that I've carried a Delica for over 12 years. It's just a knife that I have a lot of history with and like as it is. I didn't think I'd like the 4 over the previous model but after getting one, it's even more to my liking than the one I carried over a decade. And that's saying something.

I would personally want to see a Wire Clip capability on top of the Hour glass clip ability.

I think it's doable to tap 3 screws for the Hour glass and then put 2 slots with a hole in the center to accept the Wire clip.

Other than that, I don't see much that can be done without modifying this design a lot

Brilliant idea. So far i think the only general consensus is to upgrade to a lowrider clip. Also I think that its safe to say a small choil can be tastefully worked into the design. I think the choil shouldn't be so large that it is mean to be used as a primary grip like on the sage 1 or caly 3. It would be better if it was a small one that makes use of the existing space between the main grip and the cutting edge so it doesn't change the general ergos of the knife.

I dont think it would be too similiar to the caly. The caly 3 is kind of awkward looking IMO.

I'd like these changes too and agree the Caly3 is "different" looking. I thought so initially but once I got one in my hands I realized just how comfortable it is. It's been one of my main EDCs since getting it. It's only in the last month or so since getting my ZT 0350 that it's been staying home.
