Delica/Endura Are you fine with VG10?

I feel like they should take a page from the Para3 LW. Move production of that whole line to Golden. BD1N as the base steel. Boom.

Maybe they will when stock runs out. I was just curious to see how many people were satisfied and/or liked VG10, and it appears its pretty well liked. I also checked some threads on spyderco forums and theres about a dozen or more pages in the few threads I checked agreeing its pretty well liked.

I had little doubt people would like to see some other offerings, I was just curious about VG10 specifically. :)

For sure. I don't really mind the VG10, but honestly at this point, after spending quite a few years in the hobby, there's nothing there that makes me want to own it at this point. But for a functional cutting tool for most users, I don't think its bad by any stretch.

I like my VG-10 knives just fine and even though it was a super steel not long ago it seems to have no pop these days.

I really like the sprints and special editions that come up with the edgier steels from the tool steel/carbon steel branches. I think I'll do a count later and see what I have in VG-10 vs. the others.

VG-10 is a fine steel but I would be just as happy with bd-1 or aus10.
As long as Spyderco continues with excellent ht even aus8 would be great.

I still use a serrated clip it in aus8 and it gets used more than others just because it is my only serrated Delica.

I like vg10 but would love a saber grind in something more elite. I’m a rare one that likes saber grind
Im a fan of sabre grinds (sg) on certin knives as well. Its just that on the Delica, I prefer full flat grind. Out of interest, why would you prefer a SG on a relatively small knife like the Delica?
Im not disputing that you have good reason to, Im merely interested.

Honestly no particular reason just always have. I just like em a little thick lol!.. although one of my most used and beaten on is a ffg orange delica

I have Delica/Endura/Rescue knives in many steels.
Gin-1/G-2
AUS-6 and AUS-6A (black coated fully serrated Delica)
ATS-55
VG-10
Super Blue
HAP-40
V-TOKU2
Super Gold 2
ZDP-189
CPM S30V

They all work fine,,, it all depends on if you do not mind sharpening more often with some steels.

Regards,
FK

All of my Enduras, Delicas, and Stretches are Zdp 189 or Hap 40 except for one Endura with vg10. For years these Spyderco models were by far the least expensive way to get zdp189 knives.
I don t find zdp 189 hard to sharpen, so if I can afford it, the zdp is certainly the best option for me. Hap 40 has also been great.

I just read this in a revived thread :
VG10, VG-MAX, and SG2 are three different types of advanced “super steels” that Shun uses to make our blades. In blades with Damascus cladding, the cutting core—the inner layer of steel that actually does the cutting—may be made of one of these advanced steels. Blades with no cladding may be composed entirely of one of these steels. These three steels go far beyond the typical “good, better, and best” categorization. Instead, think of them as “excellent, superb, and ultra-premium.”

VG10 is a highly refined stainless steel with excellent edge retention and stain resistance.

When did VG10 get categorized as a super steel ?
Just when I think I been around here a while and know something I find out yet again how much I missed.

From my use it is about like a nicely heat treated plain high carbon in that it holds an edge well and isn't as sucky to sharpen bur wise as cheeper stainless. In other words it is a high end kitchen knife steel without getting all over the top and down the other side like S110V. In other words again not super but very good stainless knife steel.

Is it, indeed, SUPER and I have not fully realize it's full stature ? I suddenly feel like a spoiled child who has just realized finally how good he's got it compared to those in the previous generation. I feel that a lot actually.

I would love to see ZDP become the standard.
Nahhh
As much as I love ZDP it isn't for everyone. It isn't a steel for those who enjoy prying and or cutting wire ties with their knife. Don't ask how I know that :(

I don't own either of those particular knives ... but VG10 is a good steel IMHO ... may not hold its edge as long as some mentioned but is fair and it sharpens easily and get nice and sharp.

I’d just echo what others have said. VG10 has always serviced me perfectly well. I just enjoy the longevity that I get from ZDP, and don’t mind the bit of extra work that it takes me to keep it in order. Aside from other EDCs that I may have on me, I always have a ZDP Dragonfly in my jacket pocket.

As for V-Toku2, thats a greats steel and my Endura in that steel shot to the top of my favorite user knives.

Until today I have had no interst in owning a gray handled knife.
Seeing your Endura the proprtions and the cladding detail really come together with the gray FRN and look great ! ! ! !
Now I want one :(
