Delica / Endura fixed blades.

I have had this idea for a while now. I personally think that the Delica/Endura series of folders are some of the best knives to be had for the money. Why not take the folder design, and tweek it a bit and give us a few reliable fixed blades that share the comfort & ergonomics of the Delica /Endura?

Now, I am in no way saying that those two aren't reliable, they are and more, its just that some people would rather a fixed blade instead of a folder.

I'm just thinking out loud here but what do you guys think?

I'd buy at least one of each! I'm a huge fan of small, powerfully built and useful fixed blades for pocket carry.

If you don't think there's a market, just look at how many izulas, BK11s and small Barkies there are out there.

Ive wanted a fixed endura with a flat grind (but with the thickness of the flat saber grind) with frn handles forever.

I think a small edc fixed blade from Spyderco would sell well. Good idea

Great idea, Duke. I'd love to see a Delica fixed blade. Endura would probably be too big for me.

indeed, flatground blade with thickness of saber ground models is very good idea indeed. I'd buy both versions. VG-10, M4, 3V, I'd take it all ^^

I would love to see a flat ground Native, VG10 probably, with a fixed blade and molded grip. Same size as the Native III, maybe a hair bigger on the handle. Heck, just make the Native III a fixed blade. My little brother "liberated" mine, and I guess I just miss it :D.

I'm assuming that you would wish to maintain the overall shape? Lower the hump? Endura or Delica size/shape? FRN scales? Same texture?

sal

Maintain the Overall shape? Yes Please. I would still want it to look like a Delica/Endura

Lower the Hump? I could go either way, but I like the steep thumb ramp

Endura or Delica Size/Shape? If we can only have one, I would choose the Endura size since I EDC a folder. This would mainly be a work around the house knife, toolbox knife. I would prefer the sabre ground blade. I like the robust feeling of it.

Scales? I love the Textured FRN. Wouldnt change a thing about them. Colors, yes please.

Sal,

Yes, my thought was to keep the same size/shape. Maybe adding a small choil to the blade but that's it. Yep, same blade shape, FRN scales and the same excellent texture. With the handle, I would keep it the same size but bring the tang flush with the FRN scales.

I am not sure I know what you by mean in lowering the hump, unless thumbramp = hump. In that case, I would keep it quite similar, if not the same.

I personally like the Delica size & blade shape best but that is personal preference. I bet that a fixed blade version of both would sell quite well and I know I would buy both.

The thought actually came to me as I was looking for a small fixed blade to mount to my EDC versipack. I needed something that I could use to baton in a pinch and perform general camp chores. I started looking at a few ESEE knives and a few neck knives but they weren't exactly what I was looking for. I was flipping my Delica at the time and remember thinking, "I wish this was a fixed blade... It would make this search a whole bunch easier"

I do love the Temperance but as I don't use a fixed blade every day, the price for me is high.

Thank you Sal for taking time to look at this idea. Even if it proves to be impractical and wouldn't ever see the light of day, it still shows you care about your customers and advancing your product. Just one of the many reasons that Spyderco is at the top of my list.

what about skeletionized with different handle options

Essentially a Mule Team? Why not make a VG-10 Mule Team with G-10 Handles (Halpern Option 4) and a molded Boltaron sheath with multi-position G-Clip fastening system. (like FB01 & 2)?

I think that a Delica or Endura as a solid piece (no lock/folding) would be neat. It could be like a neck knife.

As for the hump in the middle of the Delica/Endura handle, I think it should be done away with altogether, on the folding model and the potential fixed blade. I did away with it on a bench grinder for my Delicas and Enduras, and they are much more comfortable.

My vision is something like what Kershaw did with the Packrat model. They turned it from a folder into a fixed blade. I think something like that could work for the Delica and Endura.

i love the current e4 frn handles. keep the same texture and make them every color in the rainbow. but certainly easily removed handle slabs. for customizing, spear making, and i would buy different handle slabs from spyderco if offered. Both sizes would sell very well, delica as a smaller maybe pocket carry sheath knife and then the bigger brother endura for hunting/camp tasks. it wouldnt surprise me if some ppl carried on of each. and btw i like for the tang to extend past the handle slab, for the looks and improvised striking/scraper tool

I Second all these specs. Colors would be nice, but I'd probably just want a black (or coyote brown). I wouldnt mind having both blade shapes, but if I could only have one, it'd be the Endura.

My vision is simply a single piece of VG10 with FRN scales screwed on each side of the handle.
