Delica ffg AND endura ffg owners only

I have carried an Endura of some sort for the last 7 years and a G-10 for the last 4. I have tried several time to find something better and it doesn't work. I can find nothing I prefer more.

I've got both a Delica4 FFG and Endura4 FFG. Both are great knives, but for my current EDC uses, the Delica4 is a better fit. The Endura is quite a bit larger than the Delica (see pic below).

My typical EDC use... Office and warehouse environment, some field work (telecom installations). Letters & small packages (under 20 lbs) (paper, tape, plastic bags, blister packs), large packages (ranging from 50-300 lbs) (plastic wrap, heavy cardboard, plastic/nylon packing straps), cable ties (velcro, twist ties, nylon zip ties), building materials (lay-in ceiling tiles, sheet rock, carpet).

I spend more time in the office and warehouse areas now, otherwise I might favor the Endura more. As things are for me now, though, the Delica gets far more use.

I've had both, the FRN Saber Ground Endura felt too blade heavy for my taste, I have a Delica ZDP FFG reground by Mr. Krein to .010 behind the edge and it has handled everything I've thrown at it, from TP to stripping wires and back. People seem to under estimate what a knife can/should do but that's for a separate thread.

I have a Delica 4 FFG in ZDP-189. Honestly, I don't really like it at all. It feels less solid than my Mini Grip and carries a bit big for how much blade length. I don't really care for the back lock either. It seems like a plenty strong lock for the knife but I just don't care for back locks a ton. One of the things that really bugged me was the thumb ramp is very steep. It puts my thumb back more than is comfortable. Mine was also very gritty in its action, both the lock and pivot but they cleaned up nicely.

I was also disappointed by the grind, it wasn't as thin as I was expecting near the edge. The ZDP is a bit chippy but their VG-10 is excellent and on par with Benchmades 154CM.

The knife does have a comfortable handle and allows for a solid purchase. The texturing on the sides is also very well done. The pocket clip is good and the knife is fairly light.

Its not a bad knife, but it just doesn't suit my taste. Its just doesn't feel that solid, but I am sure it is. Its worth trying, though. I say pick one up and see how you like it.

I would like your opinions on your experience with your delicas and enduras. Mostly leaning towards delica because the endura is a little big. I'm still iffy on it. But how has your delicas held up to what you use it for? Please include what you mostly cut. I'm seeing if it is worth $60 to me. I would really like to try vg10. You can include your enduras as well. I have enough trouble with scared people with some of my knives and the endura could give someone a heart attack haha.

They are priced "right".

While I do not EDC any if them, I do travel with one in my checked luggage. Usually the waved Delica. It cuts things you find that need cut while in hotels and such, like packaging, clothing tags, and even comes in handy as an improvised steak knife, when necessary.
Chosen as a checked luggage companion because of small blade length, non-assisted opening and relatively inexpensive when considering its quality. I carry other knives in my luggage too, but a Delica always seems to be among them.

It is not the "end all-be all" knife and does have drawbacks, but I have owned a Spyderco of some sort every day since I was very young so there must be something to like about them.

Mini Grip is an excellent knife at its price point also.

The only bad thing that I saw in using mine was that the blade gets so thing towards the tip that you can actually flex the blade with you fingers, but as long as you use it for the tasks its intended for I doubt you will snap the tip off or anything. I haven't yet on either of mine, and I admittedly used the endura's tip as a chisel in some wood.

One of my Delicas is in my pocket right now. It's the only knife I own 2 of. It will cut anything you need to cut on a day to day basis. Buy it, you will not regret the purchase.

Actually I have 2 Grips and 2 mini Grips to set the record straight. I think I prefer the Spydies.

The tips can and do break.

Both the Endura and Delica are great knives. I would suggest that 90% of the complaints ever lodged against either of them was the tip strength which is has never been an issue for me as long as they are being used as a knife and not a screwdriver, or pry bar (which obviously, neither knife was intended for those duties).

As a pure slicer, I like the thinner blade of the Delica slightly more, but both perform very very well for the price point. I would suggest that the main difference between the two is the size and this factor should be considered in conjunction with your hand size. If you have small hands, the throw of the Endura can be a little large...most would not complain, but people with smaller hands will deploy the Delica much more naturally (and quickly if that is important to you).

The only other complaints I have heard deal with the 1. lock failures (and most if not all I have dealt with were attributable to debris in the lock channel which was very easily remedied by cleaning it out with a toothpick or similar, or in a few cases someone attempted to take the knife apart and re-assembled it incorrectly), and 2. VG-10 not being good enough...it is a nice alloy, but generally it fails by rolling or compression instead of chipping...so it tends to go from very sharp to quite dull, where as many other offerings seem to micro-chip instead of roll which results in an edge that is not as keen but still serves as a "working" edge.

The Endura has been my primary carry for, many, many, many,.... years. I have probably 10 or more, including the original plastic clip version. also over the years many different colors have been offered. I have lots of knives, including a Delica or two (to small) and I always come back to the straight edge Endura, for my pocket carry.

They are crazy sharp out of the box, hold an edge, and are built like a tank. The one I am currently carrying is beat up, cause if I need to I will not hesitate to pry, scrape, or hack with it.

Yes Endura all the way.

I love the delica 4 the cutting performance is AMAZING! i mostly cut cardboard and zipties with mine sometimes rope. I actually wanted to test the VG-10 for a youtube review, so i cut 15 cardboard boxes up and it did suprisingly well. I would definitely get it

I like my delica 4. It's VG10 just chips real easily. I am talking cut through a piece of cardboard and be careful because it might chip. I just keep it as a sub 3" folder for legal reasons when traveling. It's a good knife though if you are lucky enough to get one without blade play. But then again it's a great knife I just wish yet would make it in G10 again for sturdiness. I prefer the endura but they are both awesome and great EDC blade to use without hesitation. I also love the colors:-)

What do you need a "scary" knife for?
What features are "scary" looking to you?

Eh, just for shiggles. I already have knives/multitools that satisfy my EDC roles. Anything else is just for fun.

I got the Endura in a trade just to see what people were raving about, and now I agree with them. It's a really well built knife that will satisfy any EDC/food prep/job-use role. However, those roles have already been filled for me, so I simply don't need it. I'm a simple man: one knife per role. The only role that is open to more than one is the "Just for Shiggles" role. For that, I want knives that are a bit more out there. "Scary" is nothing more than my assumption of the general public's reaction.

Back on topic: That crisp *snap* when the lockbar engages on the Endura is almost worth the money in itself :D

an FFG delica is all I seem to carry now. the size is perfect, I can still access whatever is in my jeans pocket while carrying it. I'll often forget I have it as well because of how light and thin it is.

That is a huge part of why the Delica is my favorite EDC besides it's excellent performance as a slicer. I've used mine on cardboard, tape, paper, paracord, food (cleaned before & after), etc.

Also, another awesome reason to get one, is Spyderco's AWESOME customer service. Just reviewed a great experience I had with them in GBU:
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/997305-Spyderco-Customer-Service-A-!!!

It honestly is my top EDC knife, I was really bummed when I was without it for awhile because the clip screws stripped and I couldn't carry it properly.

FFG delica is a great user, get the saber grind if you want more blade strength. VG10 is a good working steel, I run it at 30deg inclusive polished bevel, it does get micro chips but easy to maintain and good edge retention.

I have both and my only complaint is that i dont believe the tips are very sharp or pointy like most my other knives. There kinda of rounded at the tip. That is my only problem though, great knives regardless.

I guess I don't count since my Enduras are all sabre ground. But I really love them, carry really small for such a big knife especially with a low rider clip on them. I looked for a Delica for a while and ended up with a Centofante 3. This is a much underrated knife, so nice. Rides low in the pocket and feels really light. The C3 also cuts string, opens packages/mail and sharpens pencils like a champ!
