Delica ZDP-189

I'm going to re-run my Calypso Jr. in VG10. After re-reading this and other threads, I'm surprised at the behavior. Once I find my calipers in my garage, I'm going to see what the actual thickness is also. I really like VG10, and don't want to throw in the towel yet.

I really wouldn't mind someone double checking my work. Thom?

... how respectfully you manage to carry yourself through discussions.

This isn't as difficult when you understand the behavior. It rains when clouds build up too much moisture and it condensates. Getting mad at the air for not holding more water than it can is rather pointless. Now yes you may have to take steps to deal with the consequences of the rain but getting angry and screaming at the sky isn't one of the more productive means and looks rather silly to most, especially when you are getting wet and cold and the sane people just dress accordingly and move on.

When someone turns to ad hominem arguements it is because they don't actually have any facts or logic and are trying to sway over the sheep or distract them. Once you understand they are conceding the arguement their actions have little inflammatory value. The exact goal they are trying to achieve is for you to return their insults and lies. They don't mind giving up their credibility to destroy yours because theirs never existed anyway. If it did then there is no need for such actions obviously. As to the insults directly, why would you possibly care what such people think of you?

I think some of them are lazy and copying the cheat sheet I co-authored with Rob Angerer.

Imagination and creativity are too rare, at least be origional.

The performance you plotted on those graphs make it sound like the VG-10 Delica 4 is the way to go for users of stainless, folding pocketknives who haven't read stuff by Alvin Johnston.

That would seem a reasonable conclusion to me for such work, especially since Spyderco has actually move it to cover even the introductory FRN models.

I was definately, the only thing I can think on besides the obvious inclusions is that the temper was overheated. But quite frankly since cardboard will ignite at 450F. It is hard to imagine this took place considering the insane amount of effort it would take to heat up the edge and sustain that heat long enough to draw the hardness way down.

I really wouldn't mind someone double checking my work.

Always the sign of a scientist vs a salesmen/shill.

Back to the Delica, I ran a check on some new cardboard I obtained and found that in just 5 m the blade when under 10% of optimal. This was so unexpected I had to calibrate it on two other test blades just to make sure. Excellent material, I can do a complete edge retention run from optimal sharpness to where it actually starts tearing the cardboard in less than half an hour. I did two runs on the ZDP-189 Delica last night. I want to do at least another and then will be comparing it to the Paramilitary in S30V which I reground to the same primary profile.

I am considering next to include the Salt and Mora 2000, or use another ZDP-189 and S30V blade. The former is more interesting, but the latter should be done as a consistency check. I should also really include another VG-10 blade as well to confirm the two Delica work. I have a number of them with the required profile. I think I might just include the Salt and the Endura as I have been meaning to check H1 and VG-10 in detail anyway and they have both been reprofiled to the same full grind as the Delica.

What do you think about the addition of steel liners in the Delica 4? Do you value the option of tipup/tipdown carry? Do you feel it adds additional strength or resistance to loosening of the pivot or lock? Are you more confident pushing his knife harder than the previous delicas?

Much agreed. There's a lot of people that seem to be forgetful, that when someone insults you, it's you who chooses how you'll react. Remain peaceful and content or get angry and retaliate, it's up to you.

Kel, one of the reasons I always liked steel liners is I don't like the feel of flexible handles.

I personally don't care much about clip carry issues as I am used to just carrying a SAK in my pocket. My only concern is knives opening accidently so I prefer tip down for that reason. You can feel the liners make the pivot more rigid which is the only functional issue I can see, yes the handles are a bit more rigid but that really isn't of any concern. The pivot flexing is more of an issue on the Endura as there is greater leverage due to the longer blade. This isn't for cutting, but prying and such.
