DeLorean ride 2011 Tell Me About Bark River Knives, Please.

A lot of people really hate Mike Stewart, and that is fine, but if you are in that camp I have a question. How many Chinese knives do you/have you owned? The Chinese build a lot of knives, and they treat people far worse than Mike Stewart ever has. As bad as he may be, he doesn't have "re-education camps" full of Muslims and he pays his workers a fair wage to work in OSHA approved conditions. I'm not trying to attack anyone or turn the thread political, I was just thinking about this a little bit. Hating Mike Stewart is fine, but there are other perspectives out there and as bad as he may be there is a lot worse out there. Personally, I have never interacted with the guy and I do not really care if he is a jerk or not. My Bark Rivers have been just great over the years.

You are talking about a completely different set of socio-political-economic-ethical issues. China is what it is.

We hold standards IMMENSELY higher in North America. We expect fraud and buyer-beware, from China. We do not expect or accept it here.

I never interacted with Hitler, but I am pretty certain he was a douchebag too and thus would not have supported him or his continuing "White Supremist" movement.

Your statements are flawed on so many levels.

"Supremacist" is the spelling you are looking for. Anyway, I am not going to argue with you Mr./Ms./Mrs. random internet stranger. Way to miss the point.
Have a good day, I'm out.

I missed nothing, except my spell-checker.

The point is you own a product made by a proven liar and con-artist. That is hardly something to be proud of, or brag about.

Alright, you win.

It's not about winning. It's about the truth and ethics and who we choose to support. :)

Look, I have no issue with folks who own and like BR knives, assuming they purchased them without knowing the history behind Stewart. Example - I own many Strider and M. Strider custom knives that I love, but I never gave another single penny to Mick after his truth came out.

I never hated Bark River Knives. In fact, I quite wanted to love them when I saw them. Then I would do some research, hear about mis-labeling and other issues, and decide it was not a company I wanted to do business with. Furthermore, to me it seems that in situations like this (with other companies as well) it is more often not the haters, but rather the staunch supporters who seem to have more emotionally invested in their arguments. I think most people who speak out against behavior such as Bark River's are speaking from a place of genuine passion for the hobby, and disdain for dishonesty within it (not to mention personal experience, as is Shane's case).

One thing to consider...: if this fella does a search on his name, and this thread comes up: he might consider some of the statements to be slanderous...
I am certainly not a zlaeyer, and I haven't stayed at a Holiday Inn Express either...
But if you don't have direct proof of a mis-deed: stay on the sidelines.

Oh man... I somehow just got lost in this thread and the threads linked in it for the passed 50 minutes. I didn't even think it was anywhere near 50 minutes till I looked at the clock, but I came out with a nasty feeling.

Something kind of strange just happened to me. So as I said an hour or so ago I just read much of what's in this thread today and didn't like what I found. I was just on facebook (which I hate but go there for the knife groups sometimes) and someone recommened the group "Edge Snobs" so I clicked 'join group' because I love learning more about sharpening. The only written question to join the group was "What do you think about Bark River Knives and Mike Stewart?" Kind of wierd. Everyone has to answer that question to join. I said "I'll say that I think they make beautiful knives and have wanted one for the passed 15 years. That said, I just finished the recent thread on Bark River Knives and came out not feeling very good about it." I don't know if maybe Mr. Mike runs that group or other Bark River guys. Who knows, kind of wierd though and a wierd coincidence. We'll see what happens.

If you haven't been watching this dirtball's antics for the past twenty years: stay on the sidelines.

No excuse in this community for support of a known quantity like Stewart

In the past I’ve owned several Bark Rivers and many dozens of knives made in China, but nowadays I own zero Bark Rivers and zero knives made in China, and plan on keeping it that way.

I admit the Bark River knives are a point of frustration for me. I find them absolutely beautiful, love some of the designs, and would love to have some of them in my collection. However, the problem is I have went down the "Bark River knives/Mike Stewart rabbit hole", and have seen enough that I wouldn't give a single solitary dime to that guy or company. As someone who as spent years in customer service, some of the replys/responses I have seen sent to the customer are truly cringe worthy stuff.

What company would be a good alternative to Bark River knives?
Take a look at White River Knives, also located in Michigan. I have the Ursus 45 and I think it is a great knife. Also have a couple of the
backpackers.
