I updated the firmware on my DeLorme PN-30 recently and suddenly my power button would do nothing.

I called DeLorme and got a great guy on the line. He calmly and really nicely walked me through trying to reset the unit (something called a 4 finger reset) and then we pulled the batteries and tried to discharge the capacitor (hold down the power button for 70 seconds with the batteries out) and when that did not do it - he sent me a Return Authorization number.

It had full instructions on what to return with the unit - it was still under warranty so I didn't sweat it.

Two weeks later I had the unit back in my hand, well packaged and fully functional. The note said they found nothing wrong with it - but I think two weeks without batteries finally discharged that capacitor and everything was back to normal.

Three days after I got the unit back I had a check from DeLorme for the shipping amount.

I ordered two rechargeable batteries from them and within three days I had those in my hands.

When I powered it up and tried to add Geo Cache's to the unit on Firefox - it would not add. The plug in claimed not to be working.

Internet Explorer worked - but FF did not.

I jumped over to their discussion board and they had a post stating that the problem was with Firefox, or that, Firefox changed their extensions so that the plug in did not work. They also stated that they were working on it.

All the way around I am VERY happy with the unit as a whole and the customer service I received.

Classic FEEDBACK/GBU post -- especially since I have no idea what a DeLorme PN-30 is or why it should be in W&SS.

I've got 2 handheld GPS units and one DeLorme paper atlas. It never hurts to be clear. Assuming others know is leaving some people out unnecessarily.

Sorry about that. I was assuming.

DeLorme Pn-30 is a GPS device that is great for Geocaching and general way finding - But a redirect in WSS is great.

Sorry for making you moderate! ;)

Paper Atlases don't use batteries. :foot: :p

IMO, DeLorme makes the most accurate maps and they were one of the first, if not the first to offer affordable GPS navigation.

Glad to hear it.

I'm more of a Garmin guy myself, but I've always been intrigued by those little DeLorme units that offer aerial maps in a handheld.

For casual map/GPS users (not professional GISers), the DeLorme TopoUSA software is neat, and easy to use.

Bob,

I love the ease of use on the Garmin - I only went with the DeLorme because of a brighter back light and better on board maps.

I have heard GREAT things about Garmin's.
