This definitely won't sit well with many of you, but my forward units want me to pick up some whistles. I wish the only enemy was outside T-walls and perimeters, but the military is a cross-sample of society and some of the new troopers haven't embraced the military values or "brothers in arms" concept. Assaults on females do occur and the request is for the females to carry whistles. Some work nightshifts, some are doing physical training early in the AM or late PM, heading to the latrine or chow halls...we try to enforce "buddy-teams", but that isn't always feasible.

Looking for a low-profile whistle that could be carried on their ID tag's chain. Just looking for some recommendations...cost isn't much of an issue, but I would like to keep them limited to a few dollars apiece as I need to pick up a 150-200.

Have faith though...a few turds in the punch bowl can mess up the party, but they eventually get caught and flushed down the toilet. It is a small percentage, but it is a reality that you can't ignore.

the Fox 40 mini, Fox 40 micro, and howler are small and loud. The downside is you have to blow pretty hard to get good volume out of them. If you are trying to fight off an attacker, you may not be able to get the volume you would like.

There plastic, so they are silent, and they are small and low profile, and loud.:thumbup:

If I was a female, I would carry a neck knife in addition. A cheap one, b/c it would likely become evidence if I was attacked. :o

They should hang the next guy that does it from the front gate post.

That will send a message louder than any whistle.........
 
Rock, you should email Jeff at Rat Cutlery. The whistle that comes with the Izula is small and should do the trick.

Maybe he can get you the whistle alone.
 
I've seen those cord-end whistles at goinggear.com as well ... might even be the same ...
 
First thing that comes to mind is a JetScream. You can get them at Going Gear. They are flat, loud, and should fit the bill exactly.
 
ROCK, in my 33 months "boots on ground" time in Iraq, I heard of these despicable acts being commited too often! Wish I could have taken the perptrators and dumped them in some nice neighborhood, unarmed and unarmored, in Mosul or Tikrit!

You should check with Kevin Estela.
He has been involved in a couple of whistle tests.
He can tell you about some small whistles that make big noises.
 
Hey guys thanks all, we will be picking some up...I'm avoiding the big ones because nobody is going to walk around with a fist-sized whistle around their neck :eek: I like the small one's from RAT and Going Gear.

Hey Ron, we had a several cases of assault on Speicher when I was there. It's truly disgusting and God help the bastard I catch and have to "subdue". The good news is that they are isolated and they are preventable. It's a lot like urban survival, you just have to remain alert to your surroundings...it's just sad that you can't blindly trust your fellow Soldier, Marine, Airman or Sailor (or contractor). I fear for the idiots who try that on a few of my junior female officers...they'll be lucky to survive with at least one testicle intact :D One of my female officers broke a guys arm with a soccer ball shooting at the goal!
