Derivation of HI Forum posting names?

As for the name...well...duh...I shamelessly ripped it off from my time in the Marines.

As for the avatar, the wolf is how I see myself. I am no grass eater.

My sig line is something I have to remind myself of every day.

One time I got called a hyena by an opponent in a strategy game, constantly racing around the flanks and relentlessly dashing in for quick attacks. I happened to be reading "Death in the Long Grass" by Peter Capstick, part of his series about hunting in Africa. In it he describes each major animal including the native names, and mPisi caught my eye as the word for hyena in one of the southern African languages. At least it's unique :D

The avatar is a scan of a circa-1600s manuscript that someone had put on the net. The book was a beastiary of all the weird stuff that the Europeans were meeting as they explored Africa, the hyena being one of the odder specimens.

Actually raghorn was the mountain man name assigned to me by the old timers when I was a member of the Lolo Trail Muzzleloaders. Because I wasn't quite old enough to be considered the "herd bull" yet.

My avatar and signature come from the Ray Troll print entitled THERE IS NO FREE LUNCH.

Well Mark Nelson is my name. So I went with that ;) My avatar is one of my cats The Bull. I picked that pic of him because a dear friend of mine told me that the picture reminded them of me. Looks a little grumpy and mean on the outside but a sweetheart when you get past the rough exterior.

beo- from 'beowulf' (english/anglo-saxon epic hero)
-ram from 'rama' (indian/hindu epic hero)

Semper...I see more and more in common, eh?

ps:Vegetables is what food eats.

I picked my user name from one of my favorite short stories of all time, "Sredni Vashtar" by H.H. Munro aka "Saki", written about the turn of the last century.

The avatar I found in a search of British regimental insignia, and it reminded me of several knives I own, and seemed distinctive.

The signature line I shamelessly stole entirely from the old Paul Revere Network BBS, which was founded by ex-cop (and later NRA board member) Leroy Pyle in San Jose, CA about 1992-93. They were total and uncompromising advocates for Second Amendment rights without restriction. I have this saying on several of their stickers that they distributed, with a large "CD" in a red central triangle made to look like the old Civil Defense placards of the 50's and 60's.

Regards,

Norm

Came from my heavy background in RPGs. That's Role Playing Games, not Rocket Propelled Grenades! :D

I always wanted a character that could be transferred from genre to genre and still fit in. My 1st such character, was kind of a flop. I stumbled upon my second character almost by accident. I spent at least 2 years (and then some!) of my meagre days off (I was enlisted in the Singapore Army at the time), researching on the internet and *HEAPS* of books in libraries in both Australia and Singapore...

And my character was more-or-less complete: Yamaryuu Hibuke. Literally translated, "Yamaryuu" means "Mountain-Dragon" and "Hibuke" means "Fire-Warrior"...

My Avatar? I managed to save a screenshot from my DVD-player of Trigun, a popular Japanese Anime. I can't seem to find anything else that would fit as an Avatar, and I *DO* love Kuroneko-sama...

It was dark and cool.
I liked the connotations.
Not being seen (or not being seen as a threat) is my combat strategy.

My av is a pic of me I took on the way out of the barracks one day, about a year ago, at Fort Lewis.

RPG geek name came from a Games Workshop parody of American Football called Blood Bowl which I was heavily into when I was studying computers in the Uni of East London. Seems a little dumb now when I think about it but WTH. Still have a whole shedload of RPG games and books which you can see here: http://members.tripod.com/~limsk/myrpgs.htm

RPGs ain't dumb. It's those loud UBER-geeks or stone-quiet-goth-wannabes that make us RPG-ers look bad. BTW, isn't your avatar of Voldo, a character from Namco's Soul Calibur series of 3D fighting games? I'm actually a member of The Singapore Soul Calibur II League!

heehee.. Andrew, do you remember "Awful Green Things From Outer Space?" Or how about "CE" (Cosmic Encounters). True old skool RPG geekdom, there.
:D:D

I shared an office on the Rez with a Mandan substance abuse counselor. He went back east and died in a hunting trip auto accident. They later held a pow-wow in his honor ( he was a grass dancer ) and there I found this Shoshone Rose beadwork belt buckle.

To me the blue represents the heartbreak we each experience and the wisdom we gain to be passed on to others. The rose reflects the flowering of one's heart and soul into full bloom through or in spite of the blues. ( Becoming beautiful through living compassionately? ) Or something*.

BTW: RPG? I had stacks of comic books!
*Later edit: look at Ray Charles - a towering example of what I'm trying to express. To be even 10% of that would be an achievement.

Playing RPG's with friends are some of the most memorable nights I have spent. Definetly not dumb. I had a look at your list of games and I have to admit to playing just about all of them, Oh I must be getting old. I don't see Rolemaster, well worth the effort if you are still playing.
(I had a whole load of Runequest stuff, I may even have the Ninja one, will have a look)

Moff8 is a shortened version of my surname. Moffat.
I also use Tam al'Moff after a character in the Wheel of Time books who is also the father of a ginger haired kid.

Golok the name came in a flash when I was searching for a logon identity. It is an utility as well as a survival tool out here in the Tropics.

The avatar is yin-yang which symbolises the breath of the universe and the rhythm of eternity. :) :)

well, I like to chop stuff like sticks and things and I use chopsticks everyday... :o

Could've had a better one like "HARDCORE KILLERTRON" but I couldn't think of anything else then.
