Describe your vision of a S!K folder

After reading some threads about Guy being lefty and Ellie dropping some hints about a coming folder from S!K, I started thinking about what it would be.

My vision is a folder with a profile similar to a GSO 3.5 with a 20CV blade and G10 scales. I would be ecstatic if it was 3V. Now here is the kicker... What kind of lock would Guy use? A liner lock? A frame lock? A lockback?

Well we know, Guy is a lefty and would want an ambidextrous lock. We know Guy would want it to be really strong and durable. He likes to sell his blades for reasonable prices. No offense to Guy, but I think that right now Guy doesn't have the capability to produce a folder in numbers high enough to meet the demand that would be present and keep the price down. So I started thinking about who guy could have make the knives for him. Well I know Benchmade makes knives for HK and makes Bradley blades. I figure there are other small brands that they make that we might not know of right away.

What if Guy made the blades, sent them to Benchmade and we got a Folding 3.5 with the Axis lock!!!! I would be on that like flies on fecal matter!

Now you know my theory. What is your vision of a S!K folder???

It'll be really interesting what they come up with! Your idea about the folding 3.5 with an axis lock would be great! Kind of like an Adamas but a bushcraft blade.

Cool topic!

It's driving me crazy that I can't find it, but either here or on FB Guy actually said he'd be doing 2 runs of a folder in 2 different steels, neither 3v, though.

A CPM-3V version of the ultimate swiss army knife :D

On a more serious note I find your theory interesting Riz2530. I agree on a BM 275 style folder. It would be nice if we had the option of 20CV & 3V to choose from. As long as the edge aint serrated and the tip aint too pointy/clippy, I'll be very keen to get one!

My favorite folder thus far is a Benchmade Ritter Grip... the Axis-style lock would be absolutely ideal.

I'm curious if certain lock styles are patented so other companies can't use them without permission. I'm not sure how that all works.

Well that stinks. The lock setup on a Spyderco Sage 3 would be great also for an ambidextrous knife but I'm betting it would take a lot to get permission from Blackie Collins to use it.
Designing a folder must be a huge pain in the butt!

Steel wise I read the post stating two runs, in in 20CV and one in s90V. But I don't know if that's still the plan?

Lock backs are pretty ambidextrous but a little fiddle to make. Could be a friction folder which is very basic, but I don't know if it agrees with Guys design philosophy...

That's what I was thinking of, thanks ni1s! Do you remember where Guy said that?

I'd love an S90V blade, heck I'll take the 20CV too! I'm no fun when it comes to folders, love me a simple lockback as I'm both left and right handed.

I'd love an s90v version. I was Hoping for a lock similar to the Manix 2. I'd also like to see TuTd LhRh carry. It makes for a more versatile knife.

Here is my vision.. I would have to go with a big titanium frame lock. Micarta scale, CPM3V about .125 thick and 8 inches overall. The handle would be similar to the new style blades. I'm sure what ever Guy comes up with will be bad ass....

It would be awesome to have it in 20cv with the frame lock. The drawing looks awesome. I'd prefer a little less swell on the bottom. Micarta with liner on one side and 20cv on the other.

Frame lock with a flipper :-)

Well. There goes my theory.

There's several companies with the ball or bar-type lock, like Benchmade has in their axis. For example, Spyderco has the ball-bearing lock (like in the manix), SOG uses their arc-lock (like in the vulcan folder). So I don't think you have to give up on the concept entirely. They all seem very similar in use, are ambidextrous, and claim to be extremely strong. Maybe we'll get surprised with some new variation. I do think the ambidextrous locks are great and easy to use, but I do like frame locks alot too. I'm a lefty also but I just use my right hand for knife work.
