Working on some sketches for an upcoming custom (not making it personally, just designing.) Just figured I'd run it by the crowd for critique and opinion. This is my first longer blade.

A note: Some may disagree with the retention ring, but I require it due to a nonfunctional pinkie and the weakened grip thereby.

I am going to say that for me a fighting bowie needs to have a sharoened false edge so it can perform backcuts. Without this ability a bowie is only half the fighting knife.

Here is a video from my Bowie hero Bill Bagwell describing the importance of a sharpened false edge.

Also this is an opportunity to get a custom sheath. But how to cary a bowie practically for street use and not look like a total boon?

That looks great! But with a week grip I think some jimping on the spine will be better than that top guard flare. I know in reality, you won't be fighting, but functionally your thumb will keep slipping off with sweat and use. The thumb has to make up for the pinky with the weaker grip, I figure the more traction and one less obstacle the better

I indeed intend to have the back edge sharpened.

Awesome videos. Making adjustments in consideration.

Great point. I'd like to keep some semblance of a top guard, but will make the angle of the ramp much more subtle and add jimping. More of an exaggerated thumb ramp than guard.

Thanks for the insight!

Yes get rid of the "choil" on the spine opposite the sharpening choil plz. Other than that I love the knife.

Not sauing it is necesarilly better but have you thought about subhilt? Also is there some way ti have the ring that doesn't eliminate using the knife in edge in grips? I guess as long as you got the sharpened swedge you won't have to.

Can I ask if you are having this knife made by someone? Making it yourself? Who is going to manufacture this beast?

Yeah, the second choil has been removed. I originally thought this to be totally double edged instead of just a sharpened swedge. Foregoing that though...

The ring should not impeded RGEI, as the handle provides enough length to do that without the ring getting in the way. Although, one could always put their pinkie through the ring... The sharpened swedge makes this RGEI worthy, though that wasnt the goal.

As far as subhilts, I have no experience with them, and I think it would make it less versatile as far as grip. I like fairly neutral handles.

I thought I smelled a Charlie Mike. Damn I gotta say CM I've been watching your work over time and want to tell you wow! You get better and better. You only need someone rich to invest in you and CMFTW knives could be what Strider should have been.

No need... I got approved for financing a Tormach PCNC 770. This is gonna be fun. I don't expect to be operational for at least another few months. Gotta buy a laptop, tooling, build a bench, and finally... Learn CAD/CAM via YouTube University.

Yo put me in the books for that Pikal thing. I will get the loot together this month.

Unless you wanna spot me a knife? ;)

Gotta get in the books before you get backlogged a million years. So how long til we see the CM waved Ti-flipper framelock? Promise me that it will ride on pure gold! (phosphor bronze) and not bbs
