Looks like Darren Ellis is all out and I don't know where to look next... Can anyone help point me in the right direction?

Thanks

You might try Houghton. I think they sell a fast oil.

If you were looking for a gallon or two, I would have sent you some of mine! Unfortunately, if I sent you 5 gallons' worth, I'd have none for myself! Sorry bro...

If a gallon or two would get you by, give me a call... we'll see what can be arranged.

How you been, btw?

That Houghton K at 7-9 seconds looks like it is about as fast as #50 and definately much faster than Tough Quench which, as I recall is a 11-13 second oil. Good catch Phillip.

And Houghton will sell to the small guys.

Tough Quench is McMasterCarr's fastest quench? I looked at that too but thought it was a touch slow.

Thanks to all of you. I'll give the folks at Houghton a call Monday.

Matt, Dan, very kind of you both to offer up some of your own personal stashes. I've got a whole pile of W2 and 1084 blades forged and rough ground and I can't quite do much more with them until I get them properly heat treated.

I've been well, by the way - thanks for asking, Matt. Busy as always but getting by. You?

I had contacted Houghton before Darren began carrying the parks #50. They would sell to the little guys but in 50 gallon drums. I was going to do what Darren is but did not want to have to put out that much for a barrel of oil plus $300 for shipping. McMaster Carr has a Fast Quench oil 9-11 second that I got but I like the parks much better. The 11 second quench in 5 gallon runs $58 and here is the stock number 3202K7. That is at www.mcmaster.com.

These places all seem to give different people different stories. A friend just checked last week and Houghton told him they'd sell in 5 gallon quantities.

Same here, but still have my chin pointed into the wind... can't be all bad, right? We need to talk about other things some time, so if you have a time that's better in a couple weeks or so I'd love to chat with ya!

I have it from Houghton's main office, heat treating "guy" that they will sell 5 gallons to customers. My local rep told me the same. Just waiting on pricing from him, was supposed to be in my email yesterday :(

He did say it is far more reasonably priced in drums.
