Desperately Seeking Loveless...

steven

i recommend buying and reading the book "Mint Condition" by Dave Jamieson

it is a book about baseball card collecting and a delight to read. I would advise any serious collector to read it no matter what they collect

"An investment is an equity, a stock, real estate, a bond. This here"-he gestured to some of his cards " is all subject to whim. Maybe one day you get five thousand dollars for it, maybe another day you get five hundred dollars. I don't care if my collection is the biggest, and I don't care if it's the best or if it's the most valuable. What it's all about is having the most fun"

sage advice

Doc,

I don't know for me....if "fun" covers it......I've been collecting knives for over 1/2 of my life.....it defines a lot of what I am as a person....this level of passion is very frequently NOT fun.....if that makes any sense.

The fact that Loveless knives have been out of my financial reach for most of that time is very telling as well...I may be at the one point in my life where the desire to own one, and the ability to pay for it intersect...and I'm not going to crap it away.

My intention is to leave my collection to my sister's children, or in trust for them...they will be free to keep the knives, sell the knives, or melt the knives into an art project....hopefully the collection will be worth something at the end of the day.....but it really has been something putting it together, with great stories, great people, and fantastic memories.

Best Regards,

Carpe Diem! I say 'do it'. Life is short and it's only money. It's not like you're pissing it away on horses, booze and fast wimmins. :D

Hi Aaron,

Yep, I agree you crapped this one up.

You know if you used your real name instead of BlueJaunte.....you wouldn't have to tell people not to call you BJ.

BTW, I have sent you a PM to explain to you what a Dealer membership if for. As judging by your previous post you had no idea what you were talking about.

Steven, seems as though you have been in contact with a mutual friend of our's about your mission. Good luck on your hunt:thumbup:

Seems there may be some behind the scenes action going on here, good luck on your quest.
I believe you're moving in the right direction in seeking your desired knife on the secondary market as even if you were to get your Dixon Fighter from the Loveless shop someday, it's my understanding that orders are sometimes filled with other than specified handle material.

Les, c'mon man lighten up:). You said your piece, and I agree that you make some valid points, but there's no need for you to go at it here with other well meaning posters.

I think the topic you raised probably deserves a thread all its own, and that it isn't germane to the discussion currently occurring.

Hi Lorien,

I was just agreeing with Aaron. :D

Oh, and his comments towards me were not "well meaning".

Back to the thread!

well, that's what you get for going and getting all controversial and stuff:p

I hope knife collecting remains a pleasurable pursuit for you. No matter what the level of "passion" it should never be a burden. I have a old friend who has had a similar life long collecting zeal. He finally obtained his "grail" and unfortunately found obtaining it in the end unsatisfying and eventually sold everything off. In retrospect it was the pursuit he really enjoyed and when it became more and more difficult to advance to the "next level" it only added stress and misery to his life instead of joy.

You certainly write interesting reviews and believe it or not I actually agree with you on most aesthetic issues.

just something to think about.

Is/was this it?

Dave had it....we worked out a mutually satisfactory deal(Dave is the BEST!), my "grail knife" is now in my hands, thanks everyone for the kind words.

Congratulations on acquiring that beauty.

well now, there you go!:thumbup::cool:

I know what this knife means to ya and I am truly pleased for ya buddy.

Congrats in a big way

Say what?!!!!!

You offered $12K for a knife?

I wish this thread was in Whine and Cheese. I'd actually use curse words to express myself. :D

Very good looking piece indeed. It must be a true pleasure to go on the hunt for "that" piece armed with your knowledge and connections. With that in mind it must be quite enjoyable to see the fruits of your labor. It has always appeared to me that you are quite a determined individual, you know what you want and will pay for a specific piece. You certainly do come across as impulsive at all, at least from what I gather in your posts.

Congratulations, Jon
