Did CHEAP Knives Reel You In?

ENLANs make very decent starter knives and a nice way to hook someone into the hobby. So are SRM, HARNDS, Ganzo and such

I should've started with these instead of some chinese POS like the U.cutlery and similar stuff you see out there

I got a Rite Edge Barlow it's been fine so far. Over the past 6 months I did take a belt sander to it cause the bottom corners were sharp.

My first knife bought as an adult was just last summer. It was a Kershaw Amplitude 2.5 I live in Canada and ivd always wanted to have a switchblade knife ever since I was young (like most young boys im sure lol)so when I saw a flip blade for sale in canada I was amazed! I checked out the few knife sites I could find that were in Canada (at that time I just assumed it would be to much trouble to get one from the States.) So after some consideration I ordered my little flipper. I like it just fine. It worked well and only cost me around $38 all together but of course that only got me started. Soon I was looking at all the very cool expensive flippers for sale . Two months later and hundreds of knife review videos I ordered myself a Black RS-2/A Lionsteel. It was and is a beautiful knife witch cost me alot more then my Kershaw lol. Not much compared to many other modren tactical knives but with taxes and shipping it cost me right around $220 I know that probably sounds high to alot of you guys but thats just part of the price of living in this beautiful country of mine. This kind of stuff is expensive lol. So to rap this up I no sooner get my Lionsteel in my hands and I discover a whole new/old kind of knife. That's right the Traditional and that wasjust after CChristmas. I have been converted completely. My last three knives have all been G.E.C. other than saving up to pay for a custom slip joint I think its GEC for me all the way lol.m

Yes and no. I started out with a great knife, but since cheap knives were an easy way to test out different types of knives- I got hooked. So now I have a mixture of cheap and expensive knives. A Ganzo caused me to buy an expensive spyderco. Another Ganzo made me want to buy it's Benchmade counterpart. There are room for both in this hobby, in my opinion.

I'm a geezer so my first knife was a candy striped switch blade I bought for $5.00 and used it for years until I broke the blade cutting a lead sinker in half with a hammer, darn but that was a stupid move.
After that I have had literally hundreds of knives, started collecting Daltons until the prices went up too high and the doctor bills did too so I had to sell them, now I only have two.
I have never had what many call a high end knife, nothing over $300.00,but it has always been fun and I am always looking for some thing new, gonna get a Ganzo soon, not expensive but look interesting. ;)

First knife was a SAK. I've seen no real reason to spend more for a special steel/blade other than SAK for something to have on me anytime outside the house.
I like custom knives, I actually sent 2 designs to someone to make them but at the end I realized I don't really need them. Any decent blade will do the job, if is the right tool for it.

Under 50 bucks Knifes have been good to me so far but I buy most of my online or I had them since the 1980s.

My grandfather was a firm believer in carrying a knife. I loved him but thought that the notion of carrying a knife was old fashioned. Years ago I found a no name folder that he had and started carrying it. Since then I have owned and carried a CRKT Foresight. Shortly after that I bought a Spyderco Resilience and then a Zero Tolerance ZT0301 (I loved the knife). Then I decided to go with a fixed blade and bought an ESEE 5 (plain blade). I'm neither an outdoorsman, survivalist, or knife fighter, but I have a thing for carrying a good heavy blade.
