A few days ago I posted 3 knives up for sale, the plan was to sell the 2 knives that cost the most, and if I did that I was going to keep the cheapest knife in the listing ($50), Well what do you know, the 50 dollar knife was the one that got the most attention, So a member contacted me and I told this member that , I wasn't sure if I was going to sell the knife or not that I wanted to wait and see if the other 2 sold first that the purpose of me even selling the knives was to fund a new purchase, But I think I stated to the member If i don't sell the other 2 then I'm not going to sell the 50 dollar knife.Well the other 2 knives sold and I had enough cash for my new purchase, so I closed the thread and thought this was the end of it. Well said member has sent me a few more emails , and one was giving me the members name and address for the knife , Remind you now I had about 5-6 people interested in the 50 dollar knife, So i replied back to whom I thought was this member and said no thank you I am not selling the knife, well Apparently I sent it to the wrong person or the email went to this members spam folder. Fast forward to last night and I got what some people would call a rude e-mail , and this member is telling me that If ratings weren't transaction based that I would receive a negative one from this member, that I took a cheap shot at them , and they are sorely disappointed in me and that my responding email would determine if we ever did business together or not, So it got me thinking, This member is just after something, so I told them hey how about I just give u 10 bucks and you go buy a brand new knife, that way no hard feelings done, Well the members tone changed a lot and they became super nice, and that is when I quoted the member the blade forums rules about as long as no money or knife has changed hands then any party can back out of any transaction at any time, I also told them If they wanted to start a thread on me about said events to please do so that I had all the emails saved, and the member believes that I owe them a knife because they gave me their address, and I never even asked for it, They just gave it to me, Ill admit my last email was a little bit smart assey , but this whole situation has kinda got me pissed so I figured I'd start a thread about myself and get the communities point of view FWIW heres my last email I'll admit I was being rude but I'm sick of someone demanding a knife from me just because they sent me their address. heres the e-mail:

No our business is done , I was trying to be nice throughout this whole thing, but I did nothing wrong , but once I mention money you become super nice, Don't hold your breathe on getting it, and I did nothing wrong bladeforums rules states that a deal is not a deal until both parties are satisified and as long as no money or knives from one party or the other has changed hands either person has the right to back out of the transaction at anytime, So i backed out, I have all the emails saved, If you want to start a thread on me about this situation in Bladeforums, please go ahead, lol I was just going to see what your reaction would be if I mentioned money, but the first email I sent you I stated I may not sell the knife, but yet you feel like I owe you the knife because you gave me your address , Hell I'll give you my address that way you can owe me a knife an we will be even, We can go back aqnd forth all day everyday or this can be done. Again I did nothing wrong and I suggest you re read the emails and the Bladeforums exchange rules before you go after me...

You didn't break any rules but it was kind of crappy to list a knife that you weren't ready to sell. If I had tried buying and your response was that you want to wait and see if you can get money elsewhere I would definitely be annoyed (wouldn't get as bent out of shape about it as that guy did though)

Just my two cents

Sounds like a mess that could've been avoided by checking out the rules. Section 2 number 1.

It sounds like you didn't want to sell the $50 knife to begin with so you probably shouldn't have posted it up in the first place.

Sellers/Selling -

1. Be 100% sure that you want to sell the item, have it in your possession and clearly list the selling price. There is no "testing the waters" or "gauge buyer interest".

However it is your right to sell to whomever you want so you didn't do anything wrong towards the other user.

I wouldn't of posted it had I not been willing to sell it , but at the same time how many sales threads do you see pop up and an hour or 2 later say *Withdrawn* in the title, I told this member in the first email that I may not sell the knife that it is there in case the other 2 sell or don't sell. Don't remember how exactly I worded it but the point I made was that I needed a certain dollar amount and If I didn't sell the other 2 then I wasn't going to just sell the cheapest by itself as It wouldn't of funded my new purchase, Well the other 2 sold , and It funded my purchase...

He actually did break a rule. As rycen said it's the number 1 rule for sellers.

Be 100% sure that you want to sell the item, have it in your possession and clearly list the selling price. There is no "testing the waters" or "gauge buyer interest".

But do the rules not also say that as long as no money or knives has changed hands that a deal is not a deal, and I have a right to back out of the transaction, It wasn't just Oh I don't want to sell the knife, I've done a lot of transactions on here , All 100%, and I just didn't get a good vibe for this member either, They were way to pushy and something just didn't seem right about it...

They do but I'm not really sure how that rule applies to your situation. The point of the rule I quoted to prevent the dreaded "if" in sales thread. Simplicity is best. Here is what I have for sale and the price.

the plan was to sell the 2 knives that cost the most, and if I did that I was going to keep the cheapest knife in the listing

I made it right I sent the member $13.00 which with their $50.00 will cover the cost of a new knife plus shipping , I've worked hard to build my rep here and don't want to ruin it.

I don't think you ruined anything. It was an honest mistake and you asked for advice to determine what if anything you needed to do to make things right.

Well rights right, and after sending that email I posted in the OP I felt like I sounded like a class A douche, and I did , I'll admit I was a little angry over this whole ordeal, but I don't want anyone in this community thinking I am dishonest, or a thief, Or would ever do anything to get over on someone, I guess thats a dishonest thief right? Anyhow, reputation is everything and like i said 55 positive transactions at 100% means nothing If you have 1 bad one, or one member that feels like you wronged them, I try to be a stand up guy in life , internet or not , and after giving it some thought , I know what it's like to want a knife and then a seller back out on you, it sucks, So hopefully this is all resolved now and said member can buy themselves a new knife...

Next time, just list the 2 knives you really want to sell. Only if they don't sell, then list the other one. Problem avoided.

Just this last few weeks i sent a member $500 for a hinderer he wanted to see quickly. Sent him the money, and a week later he asked to refund me, i was dissapointed not to get the knife, but still gladly accepted as i wouldn't want to take someone's knife especially if it had sentimental value. A few days past he list it again, and i bought it once more :). Still waiting on its arrival.

Moral of my story is sometimes people need money for any number of situations and often some of your favorite possessions must go for other things. I think that may have happened here, along with some mis-communication.

I bought one of Allen's other knives he sold (zdp endura) and had immediate two day shipping. Got it yesterday exactly as described and couldn't be happier.

Shipped it out today. Sent you a large, hope that works :)

I dunno if a large will hold 2 guns and sixpack, but we'll try lol, Work calls you guys have a good one , Thanks for the help, the member is happy with the money, I let them know about this thread , they may not be too happy about that, and they may or may not post in it I told them I kept their name out of it, and they may chose to do the same, or they may post in it either way you guys have a good one.

Seems to me a simple misunderstanding. I understand your objective and reasoning of selling the 2 more expensive knives before selling the 3rd and I would suggest in those circumstances to first list the 2 more expensive knives and then if and when they sell to edit your listing to add the 3rd knife.

That will be what I do from now on, I was willing to sell the knife, I just didnt expect the 2 more expensive ones to sell as quick as they did.

All seems to be well between said member and myself now,the member is giving the knife as a gift to a long time friend and I'm glad that the member is able to do that now, to all who posted thank you for the advice and input and keeping everything civil, I believe I jumped to conclusions about the member and for that I am sorry I know ur gonna read this cause u told me you subscribed to the thread. I am a believer in when a man makes a mistake he owns up to his mistakes and that is what I have tried to do in this situation. I really meant no harm in the sales thread, and was willing to sell the knife but again after the 2 sold I had enough cash to buy my new purchase and I decided I wanted to keep the dragonfly, again my apologies and hope your friend enjoys their new knife.
