Fellas, come on now, please give me some credit here. Of course I don't expect to collect the fine blade Mr Wu had listed. He obviously made a mistake. I figured some unscrupulous jackass out there might make trouble for him so I used the "Buy It Now" as a placeholder until he realized the error and was able to correct it. Wu has since contacted me and indicated that he wishes to cancel and relist. No problem Wu, rock on brother. :thumbup:

Yes, the listing was a mistake which will go re-list tonight. I have sold many things on ebay, but it was the first time that my listing was putting buy it now before auction. That was weird.

I must say, the Canadian buyer, who might also from BladeForum who kindly understand, accept cancel transaction without a word.

Glad that worked out. For what it's worth if any of you are ever in a similar situation, the transaction isn't considered a binding contract by Ebay. I was in a similar situation but with an item far less valuable and the seller said he screwed up and never meant to list at the price he did. I contacted Ebay and they told me they can't force anyone to sell anything. They pretty much washed their hands of it. I'm happy to see that Hogs are always willing to help each other out even in the worldwide garage sale.

An eBay auction is a binding contract and is enforceable. Even though he may know eBay, he obviously made a mistake, which we are all prone to doing. Maybe he'll be open to working something out with you, like a small discount for his mistake. I wouldn't hold his feet to the fire though, I like to sleep well at night. Something about treating people the way I would want to be treated helps with that.

Actually, in a situation like that where it's an obvious mistake, the law says it's not a binding contract.

There's even a Wikipedia page on this. It's an English case that they're talking about, but American law is the same.
