Did someone buy KFC or is BFC a "monopoly" about now?

Just wondering if anyone has the low-down on KFC? I was going over there because of the Left handers forum. Did someone buy it? Will it reopen? Is it going to become the Cult of the Angry Canine? What's going on?

I did see the thread "Check out tacticalforums.com" Just what the world needs, a website glamorizing JBTs on the splash page. Tactical, schmactical, totally frickin' impractical for 99.9% of the public. I'll just lock and load on my NFA firearm, get into my cammies, and patrol my own neighborhood and see how long it takes me to get arrested for impersonating a police officer as more and more of them aspire to look like they are in the Army or Marine Corps.

Who needs it?

Someone bought KFC. Mad Dog, Hilton, Steve, and some others all jumped ship and started their own site.

I hope whoever bought it didn't pay too much, because they got e-screwed.

Someone bought Kentucky Fried Chicken?

Damm, wish Cournal Sanders would reconsider, his food is kickass...

If its a monopoly, is the government going to intervene? Are we in for Senate hearings about bladeforums? Just kidding, Bladeforums has been the only real knifeforums for quite some time now.

So would the public be better served by many small knife forums? Is the public better served by many proprietary operating system "flavors" as the PC manufacturers would prefer rather than the "vanilla" that Microsoft insists on?

No, Bladeforums isn't a monopoly. There is plenty of server space for knife discussion at www.tacticalforums.com There is a general knife discussion forum, and even though the site caters primarily to tactically minded folks, I encourage a wide range of topics there.

Spark,
Jumped ship? You've the oddest perspective on some things. It's like you are compelled to paint people in a negative light, whether you know anything about them or not.

For the record: I have read that knifeforums was purchased, but I have not been contacted by the new owner, or even know who the new owner is, or what their plans are for the site. As far as I am concerned, Knifeforums has ceased to exist. I did not jump ship, to the contrary, I stayed with it through thick and thin. The ship has been dry docked, or may even be sunk for all I know. My participation as moderator there was strictly voluntary and involved no compensation of any kind, including gifts or discounts. I explained that to you recently, but apparently you chose not to hear. My only obligation to Knifeforums was as a friend to Earl, and he is no longer involved. Same with tactical forums. My participation is strictly voluntary and uncompensated, and may be terminated by either party at will.

Not only that, but you don't know any of the terms of the sale either, so stop accusing me, Mad Dog, Hilton, and everybody else associated with knifeforums or tacticalforums of "e-screwing" somebody. Thank you.

Hello Oregon Duck,
Thank you for saying why you were going over to KFC. Left Handers Forum had over 20 threads and 160 posts in two weeks. I have heard nothing from KFC.
I do miss LHF and Microtech forum. I hope to see a Microtech forum here one day soon.
Kevin, IMHO that was not nice and I think you should apologize.

I'm not apologizing for anything here.

If KnifeForums.com was sold, I'm willing to bet that whoever bought it probably thought they were getting the whole kit and kaboodle, and that everyone would stay on. The fact that Earl said that he was selling the site for an amount that would partially recoup the expenses put into it leads any reasonable person to believe that that's a sizeable sum.

I can't believe anyone in their right mind would buy a site for anything over the $70 for the domain name if they knew that every forum that drew traffic would be leaving. I call that getting screwed.

Now, look at this: http://www.networksolutions.com/cgi-bin/whois/whois/?STRING=tacticalforums.com

It shows that domain name being registered on October 9. That's over a month ago. Pretty clear indication that someone has been planning to leave for a while. What a shocker that KnifeForums.com suddenly goes up for sale just after that.

Now, TacticalForums.com was up and running (0r at least the forum part was) before KFC closed it's doors. Mike posted the URL, I saw it for myself. Then, after Mrs. Mad Dog posted the URL in the MD forum on KFC, 1-2 days later KFC shuts down. So, jumping ship is a pretty fair analogy IMHO. You can call it what you like, and I agree, you had nothing holding you there, but the shoe still fits.

So, did whoever buy it get screwed? Yeah, I'd say so. They bought software with a liscense that's about to expire, paid for server space / usage that they didn't use, etc, all for a site that now no longer has any forums that will draw traffic.

Paint whatever picture you want, Steve, but I call it like I see it. No where did I say Mad Dog, et al screwed the person who bought it, but don't play like TacticalForums.com just sprang up last week. The domain registration disproves that quite readily.

Steve, I'm tired of you twisting my words to make them appear that I'm outright attacking them. For someone who protests so much, you really seem to be looking for a reason to attack me.

Put up or shut up: Show me where I specifically said Mad Dog, Hilton Yam, or You screwed the buyer. Otherwise, no offense, but you are just full of hot air and are trolling. Get the facts straight.

You publicly and entirely incorrectly accuse me of being party to a dishonorable act, and when I state the actual facts regarding my involvement, your response is that you don't apologize?

Astonishing. You spread outright misinformation about somebody, and when they point out you are incorrect, your reaction is that you don't care. Amazing.

Does this mean a recirpocal link program between BF and TF is out of the question?

C'mon, guys. It's only cyberspace. Have some fun and let it go. Life is way too short.

Again, put up or shut up: show where I specifically accused you, Hilton Yam, or Mad Dog of screwing the buyer, or admit you were wrong. You can't? Amazing. Real breakthrough. This is just like everything else you've said.

I stated that whoever bought KFC, if it's been bought (because the domain name registration still hasn't been changed over), was screwed. I provided facts to back up that argument. You respond with accusations and twisted words.

I further went on to say that TacticalForums.com didn't just happen overnight, and gave facts to back that up as well. When I see forums ready for posting on another site, before the first site has closed, I call that jumping ship. If you want to attribute malice to that statement, that's your problem, because the shoe still fits.

Steve, don't lecture me on character, your's is conspicuously absent as of late. I have stood by everything I have said, period. I've backed up my arguements, every time. You can't even be bothered to look at your own information, let alone do your own fact checking, even in the same thread.

Your sheer inability to respond with any sort of facts, let alone carry on any sort of debate makes this extremely tiring. If you want to troll, please do so elsewhere, because this is counter productive to discussion - you obviously can't be bothered to hold it up.

It's sorry to see you descend to this level, Steve. I'm dissappointed, I thought better of you. If all you have to draw on is twisting words instead of your own facts, that's your problem.

Take the high road, Steve. Do your own research. Check your own facts. Get something solid to stand on before you make inane accusations like this.

Steve,

I have warned you before myself to stop twisting words. You state.

Not only that, but you don't know any of the terms of the sale either, so stop accusing me, Mad Dog, Hilton, and everybody else associated with knifeforums or tacticalforums of "e-screwing" somebody.

Here is what Spark said.
Looks like whoever bought KFC just got e-screwed, since 3 forums + will be jumping ship.

He never said you E-Screwed anyone. It would appear that Earl did that all on his own without your knowledge. I liken it to a man selling a business knowing that it is about to be sued or go under. What difference does it make if the employees (moderators) know that they will no longer have a job? Should the new owner get made at the employees? No! Should the new owner think the employees are to blame or that the employees should of said something? No again as no one knows who bought KFC or if in fact it was ever really sold in the first place.

And yes whoever just bought KFC just got E-SCREWED! Unless some other arrangement was made to the satisfaction of the new owner.

And why do you think Earl sold KFC before the new site was public knowledge? Only Earl knows that answer but I think we all can guess.

Also Steve, you know how to use the UBB quote tags. The next time I see you say that Spark, myself or any member said anything you better back it up with a direct quote or at least point to the source.

Rich,

I was the second person to post on the new forum. I posted a siomple welcome message and an offer to help out if need be. My post was deleted. So I don't think TF will want/or accept a trading of links.

I wish Kevin good luck in his new venture.

Also we should not veiw TF as a competitor. They will have a completely different member base and some crossovers. If nothing else the sites will complement each other.

Mike is right, I plan on using and learning from both sites. I believe we all can gain from both sites being active.

You guys utterly amaze me. Read Spark's post, second from the top. It blankly states that "somebody got e-screwed". Mike, you are not even quoting from the same thread we are on.

You accuse Earl and Mad Dog of screwing somebody while being in possession of zero facts about the terms of the sale, then demand that I provide "facts" to prove your totally baseless accusations wrong. That is utterly stupid.

I have got some news for you: It is wrong to accuse somebody of something when you don't know the facts.

I am through with you.

[This message has been edited by Steve Harvey (edited 17 November 1999).]

Steve, best of luck to you then in your ventures.
I hope whoever bought it didn't pay too much, because they got e-screwed.

Nowhere does it say that Mad Dog screwed anyone. Nor does it say Hilton or yourself screwed them. Yet somehow, you manage to convince yourself that it was directed to you.

Then, when we ask you to back up your statement by showing where I've stated what you claim, instead of doing so, you make more accusations. It's getting old. Heck, it's practically like arguing with someone from Handgun Control, Inc. You'd have more success if you could actually point to something, or produce anything at all.

Here's what I see: The person buying KnifeForums.com would be getting
  • Software with a liscense that's about to expire,
  • A domain name that's going to have to be renewed in 6 months, and
  • A forums "community" thats lost 4+ forums and moderators (that, coincidentally drew all of the traffic).

Earl said that he'd try to recoup the money he spent on server hosting, maintenance, etc (which he priced at $300 a month) for the last few months. Given all the information we have, if you call this a good deal I'll be amazed. If the person who bought KnifeForums.com (if it was sold, as we don't know for sure since the domain registration hasn't changed) paid more than $70 (the price of a domain name) for it, it is my earnest opinion that they were indeed screwed.

Again, Steve, best of luck to you in whatever you do. I hope your forum does well.

No you don't, you hope it does really bad, don't ya?

Seems they don't want forum members from here at tactical knives, because my Email address was apparently banned from that site. Unless I'm missing something...

You know I enjoy spending about an hour a day running naked through this forum and posting. Occasionally, I'll hit a thread that just makes me laugh out loud. From my position (which is so far removed from most of the forum)it sounds like whoever bought KFC is going to have to "rebuild" the various forums that have exited. Hell, he may even have known about the prospects of it early on. (WHO CARES?) If this new buyer didn't know of the evacuation of some, then he probably did get E-SCREWED. But again that's his problem.
I've seen the Tactical Forum and maybe it will have something for me in the future, maybe not. Either way good luck!

Tuff,

I'm registered on both, with the same username and email, so I'm not sure what your problem would be.
