Did you ever sell a knife then were sorry you did?

Probably the 12 or so para military's that I sold over the past two years.. And now a D2 is back in my pocket..
I also miss almost every good knife I ever owned..
The only reason I sold them is because I suck at being rich..
I also miss my
Ti-ATR
Lil Temp
AFCK TSEK collection

i've NEVER sold a knife, in my whole life. i didn't realize that til this thread. i'm considering selling my first one, now.

i've LOST two of them to ex's - BM mini auto (from the days before safeties) and a Gerber ez out.

ETA - i gave one away, once, that i had to buy back when i realized a switchblade doesn't make a good 10th birthday gift for a cousin that lived in the projects. OOPS, but hey, i was like 15 at the time.

2 , one was a Strider WP NM Damascus , only one made...

and the second was a plain jane Shinosky.... for awhile I kept track of who had it , then lost track....hoping someday to find it again.

My old Sebenza, all my early afck's from benchmade, plenty of spyderco's mainly a centofante model with that flat ground drop blade.

I'm getting back to collecting though!!!!

Ya know, I always think I will regret it, but so far I haven't. I guess deep down, I know which ones to hang on to. My "to sell" pile is getting big these days. I really need to photograph and list them. There are some nice knives in the pile but I'm sure I won't miss them.

For years, my grail knife was a Dozier. Finally, I found a one-off custom combination of two other designs, with nice maroon micarta scales and two (!) LH (!) kydex sheaths. I just never warmed up to it and sold it off not too long ago.

I've never looked back and never missed it.

Sold off my Fallkniven F1, because I had a Rat 3 to cover the size range.

Regret it to this day, the F1 was such a beautiful knife. And now the prices have gone up quite a bit recently.

Nope. A few guns, maybe, but not knives. I can always get just another knife like the one I had or one I like better. Having said that, I also tend to buy multiples of the kinds of knives I like. For example, when Smokey Mountain offered the CRKT S-2 (large) w/a titanium frame and a 4-inch ATS-34 blade on sale for $25 (including shipping), I bought seven of them to keep and give as gifts. And just recently I bought multiples of another knife (Böker Plus fixed blade) that's on sale for $29.

With guns I can't afford to do that with, but knives, there are so many good ones out there that I can't carry them all as it is. If you can get knives at a great price, though, and especially if they're no longer going to be made, get several. In our economy, the value of money is going nowhere but down. Knives, guns, ammunition, silver, gold, whatever, and any other non-perishable good will only be going up as your $$$ plunge in value. Also, as money becomes worth less, you'll see more shortages as supplies try to keep up with demand.

Besides, before this is over, the government may own the knife companies. Isn't that a [shudder!] comforting thought?

I had a custom Darryl Ralph Appogee with slotted carbon fiber over nuggetized anodized titanium liners with 440V blade and a fancy Titanium pocket clip. Regretted it from day one, and for the last 8 years.

Had a Chris English "Z" auto with damascus blade, and beautiful exhibition grade MOP handles that probably hurts the most.

I've sold a few Sebenzas, and Microtech OTFs but those can be replaced, if needed.

I also had a Benchmade 850 with pearl handles that was created for the rec.knives online group forever ago. Made a great profit on it, but still regret it.

I have since taken the stance that I will never sell a knife again. I've been doing well with that for the last few years. I may have missed a bargain or two by not having the cash, but you don't miss the ones you never had.

Daniel Dorn, good distinction. Even if they get discontinued, it is much easier to replace a production knife than a custom.

I dunno about that... I have a 97 D/A Socom P/E on the way. That's been a grail knife since I was 19 (back n 01) drooling over the TADgear site. (wow, that was back when they were a MT AD... that means I'm getting old :D) Now my tastes have changed... I might sell or trade it but I won't know til it's in my hands.

The only one I really regret selling is a Randall "Diver" (forgot model). Got what I paid for it in the sale, but I miss it. Gave a Sebenza to my dad. I owed him a couple hundred bucks at the time, and he collects knives too. I sometimes check it out while I'm over there, but I don't really miss it (never really liked it too much).

I had a Hinderer Firetac that I would liked to have kept. Not sorry I sold it because I needed the money for a more important expense at the time, just wish there'd been another way. I really liked that knife.

John - love that Shinosky. I kicked myself for a while for not buying one of his EDC models when available a few years ago.

You didnt sell it in Texas by chance did you? I ran across one in a pawn shop in Austin Texas that meets your description. I am sure it is still there.

Hate to derail, but if I see it while I am hitting pawnshops in this hippie town I just might take it...:D

In 1980, I traded my original 1967 Gerber Mark II which I'd carried in Vietnam to my Battalion S-2. At the time, I thought swapping a used knife which had cost me around $20 for a custom-made picture frame worth over $50 was a great deal. Never in my wildest imagination did I ever dream original Gerber Mark IIs would appreciate so much in value as they have. :(

Yeah, I regret selling my Skookum Bush Tool. It was a long long time ago but I'm just now buying a Bark River Hiking and Camping knife to make up for it.

I sold my collection of seven, ivory Micarta, Randall bowies and a stag Bird & Trout, all from the 70's- It continues to sicken me but my wife and I are living in a nice house because the money put us over the top for the down payment- Today I sold a SRKW Crash Axe and an old-style Ratweiler- I'll be sick tomorrow but when you need the money. . . Oh well, when the money starts coming in again I think I'll console myself with. . . a Busse or maybe a damasscus/ironwood Sebenza. . . Yes, I'll be OK

it's more that I regret not buying when I had the chance... I got a benchmade afck in 2000, carried it every day for about 8 years. I kept thinking I could always buy another one to replace it if necessary. then they stopped making them. so I have bought another one, but now I have to pay about 2.5 times what they cost when I bought my original one! the original is still fine actually, but it certainly looks worn!
