Did your Traditional knife get a workout today? -Part II

I don't mean to rub it in, but it was warm and sunny this morning in the back yard when I noticed that our chayote squash vines had all died back and were ready to be removed. The stubby Mora Eldris in my pocket performed admirably for the task. The shortness of the blade actually was a blessing as it was easier to reach into tight places than other knives I've used for the purpose in past years. The full sized handle is really comfy in use.

And this afternoon...
It cut some multiply folded plastic sheeting I needed for a project, and later, the twine that is now holding the sheeting in place.
It opened a couple of blister packs containing minor items.
It opened a foil seal on a bottle of rubbing alcohol
It opened a package that Fed Ex dropped off yesterday.

I sometimes see new folks asking, "what can use my new knife for?"
Answer: All kinds of minor chores. Especially if you are a home owner with a home in need of minor fixits all the time.

I noticed after using my Boker Tree Brand barlow to cut some heavy cardboard that the pen blade has a little side to side play in it. Both blades had very slight play (is this from a weak backspring?), but it is a little more noticeable on the pen after taking down that tough cardboard. As long as it doesn't get worse it will be fine because it wasn't a bank-breaking knife purchase and I don't usually use it for that sort of task. Still, I'm a little bummed it buckled a bit under the job.

My Imperial Providence RI scout/utility knife cut the chicken breast I had for lunch.

Used my Rough Rider soddie to help in refinish some teak outdoor furniture, I put a pic in the carrying today thread. Used it to scrape off old finish in tight spots.

Used my Opi 6 to dismember and extricate a small tree that had become entangled in some 2x4 wire cloth fencing. A couple of clean, easy cuts would get me through a branch as thick as the knife handle. The trunk, maybe an inch and a half, took a little more.

A lot of tools might have done the job more quickly if not for the fence and the close quarters. The knife was what I had at hand.

The wife and I went to town today for lunch and then grocery shopping. While in the produce section at the grocery store, we came upon several bags of Minion Mandarins. We wondered if they were any good so with the permission of the produce clerk, I reached in my pocket, pulled out my Mighty Case #47 Stockman, opened the clip blade, and sliced the netting of the Mandarin bag and then sampled the Mandarins.

Never let it be said that a Mighty Case #47 Stockman can not conquer a netted bag of Mandarins.

Oh, the mandarins were very good so we go a couple of bags.

I remember when you posted this. I bought the same knife soon after I saw your post. Are you still using it frequently?

I use it as a neck knife in the woods. A leather boot lace thru the sheath and I’m good to go. It is a fantastic little knife. I can’t believe some people complain that it is “expensive”. I guess it is smaller than a companion and a few bucks more, but I use my Eldris every weekend. Very useful little bugger IMO.

Nice to see this thread again.

Me too.

Just got back an hour or so ago from the local Stock Arena at the Rodeo Grounds for the Annual 4H Livestock Show and judging. It was an enjoyable afternoon until a call came in threatening the rabbits so I put my Mighty Case #39 Sowbelly on guard duty for some of the rabbits. Before we left all rabbits were declared safe and sound.

Oh, some friends of our's, son's, hog won Grand Champion in the Swine Division at the show. The hog was a tired boy by the time the judging was over.

I put the wharncliffe on my #82 Dixie to real good, kind of demanding use fixing mats the other day
