Different Ideas For A Vacation . . . What Does It Mean To You???

Definitely a drive. But I’m closer to it when I’m on the way to Disney vs every other day of the year!

Vacations take on various roles. This week I took a “vacation” from work. This particular one is to catch up on some homework. While watching my daughters dog previously, she caused a bit of damage knocking her kennel into a few door jambs and wall damage. So repairs, clean up some “work stations” around the house. Too many gun repairs, siting on kitchen table, sharpening knives for coworkers. Sighting in a few guns. And tackling my “storage”’room of overflow.

Followed by a couple evening cigars and pipe and Buffalo Trace….and hunting for a few bottle of Eagle Rare.

Come November, Disney World vacation. Also going to look for some more Eagle Rare at some liquor stores maybe a Stagg. This will be with my family, her parents , my mom / sisters and their families. We will have dinner with them, but I don’t plan to spend the days with them, definitely not planning my day on what they want to do. They can follow me but I wait for no one. With this type of trip. My first piglet just turned 21, so she and a couple of her sorority sisters are accompanying us and they are trying to hit Epcots “drink around the world”. But she’s such a lightweight I imagine 2 beers in and she’ll be done for. IF, big IF I can break away I’ve always wanted to visit the Randall facility, I’ve never owned a Randall, but just the history of them, I’d like to visit them. And If I can get a day way, I’d LOVE to visit Edward Leedskalnin’s Coral Castle.

Come February. The wife and I…and possibly the kid are going on a road trip. Hit the road and just drive. Plotting going northwest. No agenda, just drive and see sights.

But Boss. You should hide some dog tags or blades on your trips. Those were really fun hunting for tags!!!!

Or send a few blades to traveling hogs to hide across this great county for piglets to try to find along the way!!!!!

I have a pic of your piglet at Blade 2007, shyly hiding behind Mom's legs. Little resingirl was 9. They grow up too fast.
We visited the Randall shop in 1982 and I was fortunate to buy a Model 1-6 out of the case for $127. My first 'serious' knife. Still have it.

The wife and I do love to travel, but we do not want to run ourselves ragged in the process. Our rule of thumb is one
activity every three days. That gives us a day to reposition (if required) and a day to do nothing after the said activity.
Ran into a lady at a campground in Oz who was freaking out about her itinerary. Plus her husband decided not to go
at the last minute. He must have seen the itinerary. She had activity stuff and tours every single day of the vacation.

Sounds exhausting. Imagine trying to get all that stuff done every single day. You would need a break to recover from
the trip. The one day in three guidelines work just as well either van camping around Iceland or chilling at an all-
inclusive in Mexico.

She likes doing one thing and you like doing another. So 2 different things. The Battle Saw does 2 things! One of them being having a sawback, much like Jerry laying on the couch on his "back" and inevitable "sawing logs".

And because she likes doing "everything", you're bringing everything Jerry. Meaning the Mini Battle Saw piggyback!

Woohoo! 😁

I'm starting to feel like the red-headed step-child in this thread. I'm the only one who...NAILED IT! 😎

My definition of “vacation” has changed since kids.

My wife enjoys getting away to the beach, or taking time off to do jobs at home.

I love hunting and relaxing and don’t get sick of either. My favourite vacation is heading up to the mountain gun in hand. Hunt in the morning, snooze/read/wet a line through the middle of the day, hunt the evening and then sit by the fire with a beer/spirit at night and do it all again.

Take this:
If it looks like this in front of me that means I'm on vacation.

And add this, somewhere more secluded, near mountains, or ocean, preferably in the northern parts:
We're leaving California end of the month to live and retire in the mountains. That - right there - feels like vacations.

Then, we'll do one to two weeks trailer road-trips - I've been all over the world and my international "bucket list" is empty; but it feels I haven't seen much of the US yet.

Typically looks like this and there is nothing better for both of us:

The biggest question will be which knives to take :)
And you have my idea of a good vacation.
I tend to like to see new places, sometimes do new things. Nearing my 60's, with too many hard miles on my knees, I still like to see new places on my feet as opposed to on a bus or a car. So, the vacation will involve a lot of activity of one tpe or another. With some rest thrown in.

Stay at home with no plans and no obligations fora few weeks. If I get a wild hair, I go for it. Otherwise I get to work on fun projects (lathe, mill, 3D printer, knives, guns). Or donate chores I’ve been putting off which takes anxiety which in turn makes me happy.

It is all about breaking away from the usual routine and exploring new places, whether a bustling city or peaceful countryside. A great vacation should be a mix of adventure and relaxation. Sometimes, I love just lounging by a beach; other times, I’m all for hiking up a mountain or getting lost in a new city’s streets. Europe, for example, has so much to offer in terms of diversity. From the charming villages in Italy to the vibrant streets of Paris, there’s something for everyone. If you're looking for ideas, https://travelbusinessclass.com/best-deals/region/europe has fantastic European deals. It’s worth checking out, especially if you're after a unique experience!

I recommend Miami Beach or Key West and get the hell out of the general territory. No gear or bs other than a bathing suite and credit card lol

If ya want something still a little more hands on without the beach scenery I also recommend getting a charter package in Alaska where you can fish for halibut and salmon, with scenic glaciers tours, etc.. They will vacuum seal/prep your catches and ship to house.

Just came back from Ukraine...see the sights, meet nice folks, spread some freedoms...

But generally, just go to new place, google fun stuff to do, do a walking tour of a place ask a guide where locals go...deal with hangover next morning see what's around me. Usually sign up for something fun like a bit of diving or something (immediately regret drinking last night).

Ideally just a regular backpack and be as untethered as possible. Avoid any and all tourist traps if possible.

Flying out to Singapore tomorrow, going to catch F1 race next weekend. Staying with my best friend and his wife there, so going native basically hehe.

Being miles from anyone, surrounded by mountains, trees, critters and not hearing any noise other than nature. Luckily I get to do that at our cabin.

Two types of vacation for me. Relaxation or Sightseeing.

Relaxation is usually camping at or near the beach

Sightseeing is well… sightseeing.

This year’s trip fell into the sight seeing category. Wifey and I went to Italy from Aug30 to Sept17. Drove around the country and saw pretty much everything you can see. We logged close to 3,000 kilometers. We did hit 3 different beaches when we were there. The sights were definitely worth seeing!

It was phenominal.
