Different Ideas For A Vacation . . . What Does It Mean To You???

Im currently in North Italy with my family which consists of a 5 and 7 year old and my wife. We did 10 days up in the mountains and finishing up our trip outside of Venice.

Traveling with young kids is not really a vacation but our time in the Dolomites is the closest thing to it we have gotten.

We normally do one big international city trip with them a year and after this I think sticking to a slower pace is the way to go rather than taking them to a big city until they are a bit older.

We do both, relaxing on the beach vacay's (usually in a resort) or sightseeing (our last was Egypt). We are in our 70's so when we sightsee we have learned to not plan too much so we have lots of free time. But riding a freaking camel was an experience as those suckers are huge and their gait is weird.

I'm often surprised by how other people spend their "Vacations".

How about you?
For me, the perfect vacation is about chopping and splitting. But in your case, I guess that is exactly what you want to get rid of, when going in vacations. 🤣

I'm late to this thread, but my fave vacations were roadtripping for food. My stomach is my compass. I like foods specific to an area, especially Texas BBQ joints across the state (and elsewhere these days), Cajun country for seafood & boudin, seafood in the Pacific Northwest, Florida, & Texas Gulf coast, and regional dishes & desserts in other places. And always, the stories of the locals you meet along the road.

If you go abroad, definitely try the local cuisine. But be prepared for surprises, both delightful and shocking.

I'm fortunate to live in Michigan so I can drive to almost any outdoor activity I can imagine. Wanna fish a trout stream, sand dunes, heavy forest hike, tent camping on the Lakeshore it's all just a drive away. My wife and I like to go north and stay near a touristy areas in the off season just before everything closes down for winter. We mix camping with cheap motels, we walk natural areas and can still be close to good food. We only plan the area and length of time, the rest is up to us on the day of. We bring anything we might need for any activity we could decide to do and away we go. Wandering around Mackinac city was our last trip too many years ago in the third week of September to enjoy the cooler weather and almost no crowds.

This is what I do. We typically try to find old trails. Utah and colorado mostly. My rubicon and 4runner have taken me many places.

This is such a smart idea—automating something most travelers wish they had time for! It sounds like you’ve turned a frustrating travel reality into a solution that could save people a lot of money and effort. It’s inspiring to see someone take an everyday problem and build a tool around it.

When I travel, I always compare prices last minute, but it can get exhausting, especially when juggling other trip details. For my upcoming summer trip to Florida, I used tools like this to monitor deals and found some great options. For instance, I stumbled upon https://www.westgateresorts.com/hot...-river-ranch-resort/river-country-water-park/, where I discovered some nice resorts that fit my budget.

Short (2-3 day)
- Explore something close by (in state)… hotel, camp or rental based.
- fly to Cabo & post up on the beach/pool

Longer
- road trip
- visit far off friends/family & mix in some local activities
- go far & either:
—> take a bit longer than what some guide book says to do if you have “X” number of days.
—> pick arrival spot and your departure date/spot… and figure the rest out as you go.

That being said, I’m currently on a 45 day staycation. Been having fun dorking out on BF, motorcycle riding, hanging with buddies, house projects… just a nice break from whatever I don’t want to do.
