Digital Camo. Why?

This post is about camo, not politics. Keep it focused boys or it will, like digital or mossy oak, disappear.

Multicam is the best stuff I've used. MARPAT came out after I left the Marines but I'd prefer the Multicam if given a choice. The funny thing is, Multicam was developed under an Army program and they STILL went with the ACU. Duh.

Multicam would have been a better choice but politics got in the way. It was a privately developed patter, not that super-cool pixelsted style those Jarheads have, and cost more because its comprised of six colors instead of three and uses "high resolution digital fades" (in other words the colors fade in and out of each other at some points instead of having straight lines and differntiations). So it had three strikes against it and now the UCP is here to stay. Entertainingly enough, I've seen Delta, SF,and a lot of private contractors with Multicam. Then again, there have been SF and SEALs using tigerstipes and solid tan so it isn't all about these new patterns either. Pictures will follow as evidence.

I had a few camo, marpat was the last one before buying a multicam. The multicam is a really nice pattern!
Camos are used and selected on purpose to match the sourroundings, multicam may not be the best for some type of terrain but it is the very best overall pattern that will blend enough in all areas.

Realtree was always pretty marginal camo. Treebark wasn't bad for the intended purpose, but realtree was more for the look on the hanger. Of course in the right material with the right general coloration, it works well enough.

One thing about the digital camos is they are sorta patternless. A lot of other camos are recognizeable designs, like Tiger Stripe. Some people miss the esprit de corp factor that comes from having a really cool camo that defines you in a bar. But it probably helps that digicamo is actually hard to see a pattern in.

I like multicam but I don't really know if it's all that much better than others.

Problem is almost all multicam photos I've seen come from manufacturer's website, no wonder they seem too good to be true.

In a bunch of third party photos you realize that it is actually a pretty clear camo. That's not so bad since many camo tend to be too dark, but it doesn't fit all environnments.

Sometimes a good old woodland ain't that bad compared to newer "super camos"

That said, the ACU is probably among the worst ever seen:

Maybe good for Iraq or Afghanistan but how dare they pretend it's meant for woodland too.
