Dilemma: trc in m390 for woods?

I just bought the speed demon 60 seconds ago

There are a few other trc knives I was very interested in but i had to get it from lamnia and they didnt have the others in stock - we have an australian dealer of trc but their prices are high, like the urban model which i like if in stock at lamnia is about 500 aud shipped but from local supplier is $695

So ill try this one out and maybe look into more later

But hopefully not… pay the bills instead

I think I’ll be happy enough with the skeletonised handle, honestly now that i have a 4 year old my serious sit and bushcraft time is severely limited and i find myself just using whatever folder is in my pocket far more than a fixed blade… and that is why i took so long after starting this thread to actually buy the knife, because i was also looking at getting another crk which I definitely did not need!

Thanks again for all your responses

Can’t wait for this to arrive, i think it was the right knife to get as Ive wanted to try one for a while, not just a quick impulse buy

You can always shift it at a small loss if it doesn't meet your expectations. At the end of the day, life is short and clearly this blade makes you happy. I hope you enjoy it!

A lot of great suggestions here, and I know you've already bought something but, for what's it's worth, you might want to also check out the Peltonen M23 Cub. It's a small, light knife although not in stainless, it's 80CrV2. But it's a smaller blade for lighter carry like you're after and has what's looks to be a very comfy handle, similar to the Rokka that luethge luethge mentioned above, only smaller.

For something small, skeletonized, and in stainless AEB-L like you wanted, check out the SYKCO Scrapivore on sale on the Busse Combat website for $100.

If you found the bare skeletonized handle to be too uncomfortable, I can recommend that you take some tennis racket grip tape and wrap it. There's a variety of types and textures on Amazon to be had. I've got some nice foam-like grip tape that has a fabric feel to the outside for absorbing sweat and drying faster. Makes a big difference in comfort and adds almost nothing to the weight or dimensions. Easily replaceable too.

Finally, what about the Mora Eldris? They have a standard version and a newer "light duty" version which come in stainless Sandvik 12c27 steel. It's not skeletonized as it has a molded on handle and a hard sheath that can be worn as a neck knife, but the sheath doubles as a handle extension when reversed and placed on the handle instead of the blade . Good way to get handle comfort and size in such a compact knife.

The Eldris, being a Mora, is cheap enough to try out without breaking the bank too. Something like $35ish on a quick search I did. But I totally understand it not having the appeal of the sexy Speed Demon!

None of these will have the abrasive wear resistance of the Speed Demon in M390 obviously, but for outdoor use, the tougher steels above may prove to actually fare better. Depends on your usage.
