disappointed in Benchmade

It really suprises me when seeing so many people defending BM of them selling dull knives...

Seems like a lot people think it's ok when the knife is dull from the factuary, so I kinda imagine if they also think that it's ok to buy new cars that come with flat tires, or order some food that come without salt added...

People aren't really defending them persay. ;)

I haven't seen a dull blade from Benchmade, but the bevels aren't what I would want to use so I adjust them.

That said I have seen blades that could be been sharper from all the different knife companies at one time or another that I have dealt with.

The bottom line is if the edge isn't exactly what one would want sharpen it and or learn to sharpen and quit whining about it.

What is it with all these crybabies around lately......

They sound like a bunch of little 12 YO girls.....

What pressure do you expect to see in new car's tires? What is flat tire for you? Are you sure that you have never been sold a new car with air pressure in the tire below maximum allowed? Have you checked? Or are you a kind of regular person who while taking a new car checks important staff, like paintwork and gives tires just a glance?
If the food in the restaurant is not salted up to you taste - what do you usually do? Send it back to kitchen to be properly salted? Log complaint? Never return to this restaurant? Or you are a kind of regular person, who understand that all customers have their own taste for salt, some like it more salted than others and cooks usually add the salt to some statistical minimum - so those who like it less still enjoy, and those who like more of it just will salt it to fit their taste exactly...
So what is exactly the point? Do you know how exactly dull these display knives actually were? Does anybody here except for PO knows that? So here we get another pointless discussion - so like many others with exactly the same argument, the same story taken from other threads before - fools errand, just can not agree more!

You noticed too eh?

I thought at first it was just people offended that someone spoke down about their brand of choice , and they felt honor bound to defend it ... then it seemed a lot like people just spouting crap for the sake of a argument ..

benchmade has a following , that is obvious , that there is always a thread about their slipping qc on the front page is not news .

That people should not buy a knife if they are not prepared to profile the blade themselves and maybe heat treat it while they are in the shop is a no brainer .... like wtf are they thinking if they cant ? THey are the kinda people who should be buying knives made in taiwan if they are going to pick on details as fit and finish and sharpness ....

OK maybe Im getting carried away there .....

Personally I've never had any of my BM's come out of the box dull, always at least shaving sharp, and my Mini Grip came out or the box hair whittling sharp, as did the replacement blade when I sent it in for service (excellent customer service btw). They don't put a very acute edge on their knives but that isn't to say that their knives dont leave the factory sharp, they just aren't sharp enough for your liking, and that really isnt worth complaining about, and it really isn't that difficult to fix. Just my opinion of course

Benchmade REALLY need to get their shit together , and I say this as big Benchmade fan
I'm not talking about the sharpening , but on the entire fit and finish in general
In fact , I don't care about sharpening at all , but I do care about a solid lockup , and pretty much sick and tired with the blade play I had on virtually all of my recent Benchmade's , which was caused by poor tolerances and fit of the AXIS lock
And unlike the sharpening issues , those annoying bladeplay issues you really can't fix yourself , unless you have some extra bigger stop pins , stronger omega springs or thicker AXIS bars for replacement available at your home

I still love Benchmade and the AXIS lock , but I wish they actually put some damn effort to improve this quality issues
They should check out their Oregon neighbors - Kershaw/ZT , and the incredible quality they are consistently
keeping , even on their cheapest folders

Edge degrades with the use, HT does not(unless you stick the blade into fire for a while) , how hard is that accept...

you ask me to quantify something but didnt say what scale of acceptance youre using ...

as far as the thread has gone .. from simply sharpening to the customer being expected to put their own bevels on the blade so it dont matter that its sold blunt ... its not such a big step to assume that different customers would want different heat treats , so let them not just grind their own blade , but heat treat it too as they want ..

where do you draw the line with a knife being finished ready to sell ?

From a discussion of what not very sharp means, to whining and cheesing, to a bit of testosterone, this thread has run its course. I doubt anyone here needs to repeat themselves anymore, we got the idea.
