Disappointed with S110v Paramilitary 2

I just received my S110v Paramilitary 2 and I'm disappointed to say the least. I am glad that I ordered it from a place with a return policy. I am only going to use about 15 min of the 30 day money back guarantee that they have. (enough time to go straight back to the post office) Right out of the box the knife had lock stick. The second issue was with the stiff action. The knife did not fall under its own weight. This is not something that I expect but the knife would not drop unless I shook it quite hard. When opening it with your thumb the action was stiff and made the knife feel cheep and unfinished. Let me know in the comments below how yours came from the factory. I'm dissatisfied with my example after watching everyone rave on youtube about theirs.

Doesn't sound particularly unusual, for a new knife...but, if you're inclined to return it, I'm not going to waste any effort trying to dissuade you.

It's a new knife and quite common on many new pm2s....it needs broken in, you can expedite that by adjusting the pivot. Put some graphite on the tang for the lock stick....it'll smooth out as it gets broken in.

My user s110v came like that and after a few weeks it became a smooth free faller.

I realize that this is not unusual for a new knife. I have owned a few pm2s and this one was by far the worst that I have handled.

Well there is some inconsistency but overall the quality is good. Truth is that I get nervous when I unpack most production knives. I would say that the Taichung Spydies are the closest to consistently "perfect" at their price point.
I owned the BladeHQ Para 2 Jade M4 and the blade was off center. Not the end of the world but it is disappointing when they're hit or miss and you get a miss.

All mechanical devices tend to break in and loosen up over time, whether its a Spyderco or a 1911. If you love your toys, you'll use it and be part of that process. If not, that's okay too.

I wouldn't blame the steel, IMO it needs to be broken in. If that doesn't work some minor tweaking and it will be a keeper.

Turn that pivot with a T8 Torx approximately 1.926 degrees to the left.

What if he goes 1.925???? Will it explode??

OP.....a little patience and you will have a perfect Para 2.
Couple of mine came like this and it is super simple to get it where you want it......unless you'd rather forget 5 minutes of effort and stamp your feet some more.
A little line in the pivot and let it sit for a couple of hours. Then just flick the snot out of it......BEFORE you adjust the pivot.
After a couple of days of this, it still is t where you'd like, loosen the pivot a TINY bit.
This is called a break in period and is normal. Some come tighter than others, but 99% of them will break in nicely.
Don't give up so quick. It's a fantastic knife.

My Burple came perfect, every once in a while a blind squirrel finds a acorn... The BHQ version...not so much, lock stick and stiff.

The blurple I bought new came crazy stiff like yours and I also returned it. Was able to jump on someone's used one that they said had a good action and they had also replaced the scales, backspacer and clip, so I feel lucky to have it.

I Would rather loosen a stiff blade either manually or by letting it wear in then have to tighten a loose one.

Yikes, would you return a new car if it needed a little air in the tires?

Some will and thats fine but I think id rather just fill the tires and enjoy my car :)

Knives, like cars have preventive maintenance thats up to the user to do to enjoy continued performance

you'll need to adjust and lubricate the pivot over the life of the knife anyways

its a part of maintenance just like sharpening

it being stiff is good. maximum life to the parts

if you limit your experiences to factory edges and fit and finishes be prepared to be disappointed on alot of knives under $500

also that high end knife will still get dull and still get clogged up in the pivot or just loose and need some form of adjustment overtime with use.

I think its time to purchase some torxs bits and some lubricant so you can enjoy a wider variety of knives and maintain that high level of smooth operation

versus having your selection based on something so temperamental.

This is so true Joe!
I'd rather it be a bit tight brand new so it can break in. It will last considerably longer this way!

The only reason I ended up returning mine was it was my first ever spyderco purchase and I was just like "welp not gonna bother getting into this brand". Stupid, I know. I love my current pm2
