Disappointed

Threads about disappointment make me disappointed...:D

Welcome Chuck, I hope you are able to get the knife you're after. Just about everyone around here has missed one some time or another, just keep looking.

Hey, where were all of these helpful hints when I first came along?! Just think of all the blades I could have by now if I had gotten these tips at the get-go! I am so disappointed! ;)

Eric

You were a fast learner.:D

Boo hoo. Did you mistake something around here for a shoulder to cry on? Are we now a support group for sore loosers??? You sent an e-mail 3 minutes after the posting. Sorry Charlie, but I've sent one within the first minute and missed a DOTD. Quit your deleted *again* and try again. Or, don't. Raise the white flag and run like hell.

Imagine what Yangdu's e-mail box looks like after posting a DOTD. You mean she got busy and didn't have time to let you down easy??? Jeezzzz. I'm kinda scared of what you might do with a khuk.

i'm talking to your internet provider now... all your mail will be held and delayed for 15 minutes from now on ;) any mail that mentions samshers, karambits, or blems will be delayed 45 minutes :)

eta: M43 will never get delivered ;) me first !!!

have a good day :)

(man, i wish i had that power! j/k)

Andy, in this world it is easy to assume the worst. I don't blame Chuck for that.
I am curious though, since I know he was given/offerred a great deal afterwards, what he thinks now?

munk

She did make a very gracious offer and I'm waiting for additional information now. From everything I've read, customer service is superb. That was never in question.

Sorry. This doesn't deserve any more response than this.

Well, looks like I kinda missed the boat on this thread. I will say that I tried to get a Bolo for a full month before I finally snagged one. Missed four in as many weeks. You think the sharks are fast here now? You ain't seen nothin yet. Just wait til the new kerambits start showing up. Then you'll see what the sharks are really made of.

There's a sticky at the top that tells how to order. It's here
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=198282

Basically send an email to Yangdu at himimp@aol.com telling her,
1. Exactly what you want to buy.
2. How you will pay, paypal or credit card.
3. Your real name, and shipping address.

Yangdu's deals are a gift to us. She's not required to post them.

Now I said welcome, and I mean it. But I've got a low tolerance for whiners. I realize that someone can be having a bad day, and fire off a post before you think about it. Heck, I've done it myself. So if you can suck it up and be a man, hang around and try again.

Otherwise.....

Steve

I had read the ordering sticky and followed the instructions.

I certainly did not mean to come off as a "whiner" but this, like several others I follow is full of the (very knowledgeable) regulars who seem to compose quite a clique. I have no intention of not following the list. I just question the fairness of ordering if I'm not one of the insiders.

Perhaps I was too hasty in my post and I apologize for that. Obviously, many of you take the buying far more seriously than I ever will. I will stay out of your game and watch from the sidelines.

Thanks for all of the responses.

Don't sit out! :(

Sure, if you don't go all out you'll miss a bunch, but you'll get a bunch of great deals too. You just gotta not invest too much in getting any one particular knife. And while yeah, some do go in a matter of seconds, others hang around for hours or even days depending on the whims of the sharks and what's been offered recently.

Long story short, you can be a casual shark and still come out ahead, it'll just take a little longer. :D

3 minutes is forever...

I watched carefully when I first got here...had the form letter ready, a very fast line and found some measure of luck.

You can too...but ya gotta be *fast*.

Guys...let's try to remember that the rest of the internet is insane. It's not surprising that a relative newcomer would assume that we are like everyone else.

They would have no way of knowing that many of us know each other in real life...that we have been through births, illnesses and deaths together, but that while we are a close group, we still (okay, maybe a few get a bit stridant) hold the door open for new guys and invite them in out of the cold...try to get them settled on a stool near the fire (no spitting on the stove please) and *try* to maintain a higher standard.

Tha's all...I'm tired of typing right now.

The main thing is to know what you want when you see it, and act.

Munk is absolutely right. The best sharking guys understand this. You have to monitor, look, and decide instantly. I have even sent emails based solely on the description when the pics didn't show.

Personally I don't see Chuck's post as "whining" at all. He followed the rules as he understood them, and still lost the bid. His post discussed this, and I don't think he should be name-called and handed a new one because of it. It's been explained to him, and now he knows.

I consider myself to be pretty adept at snagging stuff when I really want to, and remember distinctly when Sassas was at his infuriating sharkly best, wondering if I would _ever_ beat that guy for a couple of weeks, and posting about it. (But not mentioning him by name as I recall.) Munk and a couple of other guys calmed me down and told me it would work out and they were right. Sassas was like a vacuum cleaner on these deals and my email was going through a phase and didn't want to cooperate. It was really frustrating for a while and then a day came where 3 great knives sat for hours and I was able to take my pick and get one I had been looking out for.

From that point forward it has run hot and cold, but has never been that bad again. And if I do miss I'm able to be pretty philosophical about it, as I count myself fortunate to have recieved the knives I do have. Now I'm getting far fewer, which is good as there's lot's more time to go slow and get the right ones.

(Uncle Bill must have told me to take it easy and go slow several times, but I was always convinced something would happen to the company and I would miss out. I subsequently ended up with a lot of stuff that I didn't keep, and wasted lots of effort and $.)

I missed some of those deals by _seconds_ literally, and neither Sassas nor I usually posted on the thread that we had sent emails. I've sent priority emails to Yangdu within 10 seconds of her thread appearing and still missed.

My best advice when you miss something is to simply email Yangdu and ask for one. She'll either have an extra, or can arrange to get you one, esp. if you prepay.

Welcome Chuck, and I hope to see you get more snags on the DOTD.

As usual, and I wouldn't have it any other way, there are many more kind people here than myself, and I think we should follow their lead and welcome Cdarney.

Cdarney is completely right about one thing: deciding to get an HI khukuri!

The feeding frenzy is a dogfight, and the fastest reflexes go home with the tribox. Based on ability to be first. It should be that way with everything in life.

The difference between "Sorry, it is gone" and "Done deal" is measured in seconds.

With only 5 posts, he can be understood. Dude, go to the HI store if you are in a hurry. The shark tank isn't the only way to get a beautiful, hand-made precision cutting tool that also doubles as a work of art.

Sharks get full, but the kamis keep hammering out blades. There'll be another, the one you are supposed to have.

Welcome. And better luck next time. (Yes, an email draft ready to go after lunch is the way.)

Here's one of my tips: make an outrageous decoy thread in the cantina right about when the DotD is going up. While all the sharks are reading your thread entitled "Condi Rice Is Trisexual!" or something like that, score!

Mike :foot: :D ;)

Welcome, Cdarney! :) I do hope you decide to stick around. This really is a great group of guys. I've been able to score 4 DOTD's; only lack of funds has kept so low. There are no insiders here; it really is up to your quickness and a measure of luck. Stick around and keep trying.

Mark

Man, I love this forum! Everybody trying to help out and encourage a potential sharklet that could, in the future, snag a dream blade from them.

What good folks over here. Well done!

I hope you stick around Cdarney. If you do, you won't regret it!

Yep, the feeding frenzy is legendary. There is nothing unusual about this. I don't think it's slowed down in years.
