Disappointed

Is Yangdu's aol address the one to use for paypal?

Does anyone knows what is the extra to ship in Canada?

I'm in Canada! IIRC, shipping was $10.

To be fair to Yangdu, you don't have to be that precise. I snagged a DOTD very late in the day, with a very vague e-mail thinking it was gone, that said I wanted

Re: 8 inch 7 ounce JKM by Kumar. DOTD

My reply was;

Done deal will ship today.
Payment method?
Shipping address?

Thank you

Yangdu

Chuck. When you actually snag a DOTD, it is a very sweet feeling. If you don't want to wait, Himalayan Imports has a shop website and will sell at anytime. http://store.yahoo.com/yhst-7333098713883/index.html

Indeed. Has there ever been a more gratifying letter, from even your most strident sweetheart, than:

"Done deal will ship today."

It makes me fall in love all over again.

"Done deal will ship these khukuris Monday."

Do they simply not wait for payment before shipping? I'm glad I already paid by PayPal, or I'd feel guilty having something coming to me before payment arrived there.

All I can say is that I'm simply amazed; it's nice to have that level of trust with your customers. I do hope they don't get ripped off often, if at all.

Hahaha I just realised why I always miss the DOTD they come on at about 3am-5am in Perth Australia. Im gonna have to go to bed early or stay up late one night :P

I'd had a taste of that living in hong kong. Stayed up real late....missed ! But it was fun...! :D

Man, I just sorta found this thread.

To the author: Sorry you got burned, man. I've been there too. Once I saw this one I *knew* was destined to be the knife to help me defeat the hordes. And I dilly-dallied for about 5 minutes. By the time I mailed, it was long gone. By the same token, I once snagged a SWEET foxy folly a couple hours after it was posted. You just never know. But keep it up, and don't get too discouraged. Lotsa good deals to be had if you're patient.

And I can see how this place seems cliquish. It's easy to confuse a close community with a clique. But please know that we were all new here once too. I could scarcely have found this place to be more welcoming once I gave it a real try. Just start postin' here and in the Cantina, play nice, and you'll surely be welcomed just as we all were. This is a great place, and I sure hate hard feelings here. Please, pull up a seat. :)

Heh, if you think it's tough here, you should try the Busse forum! Instead of a deal pretty much every other day, we only get one every few months. And the events are packed beyond belief, often crashing the entire bladeforums website during the ganzaas. They pretty much always sell out completely in a matter of seconds, 50 knives gone in 45-60 seconds of the Go post. Basically you have to sit at the computer, refreshing the page as fast as you can, non-stop for an hour waiting for the go sign, and even if you're fast enough to get an email out in under 60 seconds, there's still no guarantees, really keeps you on the edge of your seat.

and don't forget that they also post fake "Go"s and lie cheat steal, call you on the phone, kidnap your granny, or anything to make you miss that window. then they buy multiples, and later turn around and sell the extras (for profit and glory k'plah!). all in good fun. also profit. the cycle fuels the next buy in, and their sports cars that they need to drive to their hidden bunkers filled with safe after safe of mint knives :) collecting is hard!

Mr. Darney:

Welcome to the forum. I'll agree to overlook a somewhat whiney first post, if you'll agree to overlook any less-than-charitable responses to that post.

I've seen DOTDs go, literally, within seconds...just as I've seen (I've tested it!) some email programs take several minutes to send, and others, several minutes to receive- as long as ten minutes from sent to receive. Frustrating when you're trying to purchase a blade you've wanted for months, certainly.

I have also seen absolutely AWESOME blades go several days without selling. (One that comes to mind is a 18" Chit that sat, unsold, for several days.) Luck of the draw, kismet...or a quick trigger finger, take your pick.

Be great if you decided to give us a fair chance, just like we'll give you, and stick around. :)

Regards,

John

You don't rip off nice people or karma will come and bite yer bum. And you don't rip off people who sell sharp pointy things.... or guns. :)

I think there are enough people here in enough geographic locations that if Yangdu e-mailed and said could you nip round an collect some money, we would.

Don't sit it out Chuck. Participate. Every one of us was the New Guy at one point or another, except maybe Yvsa and a couple others who were here from the begining. You got off on a bad foot maybe, but most all of us are willing to let it go if you are. You won't find a more decent crew anywhere on the net.

Chuck,

I have nothing to add other than "Get the @#$% back in those waters, shark!"

(I mean that in the nicest possible way.)

Eric

Good point WRT the other forums. Busse and Randall guys make us look like pikers. If I want to sell anything on the Exchange anymore the only way it will get looked at is if I title it "Busse" or "Swamp Rat." Fanatics!

(I mean that in a nice way of course. ;) )

Yeah, but I've never been pulled in by the fakers. I think they should make it so if you fall for the phony go posts, you're eliminated! I'm not fond of those who buy a dozen or so duplicates to resell later, though I have to admit I did uh, tactical shopping in the last ganzaa to afford the battle mistriss I went for. I asked for 2 camp tramps, although I only needed 1, to take the edge off the expensive BM! I feel like such hypocrite. :o
