Hi!

Anybody have a good suggestion to a small, ligth and discrete "gents" folder?
Could of course be a BM 335, but there has got to be others too!

Best regards
Bo

Also, the CRK Umfaan. Very nice gentleman's knife. Several of the smaller Benchmade's & Spyderco's also would make excellent gent's knives.

Hmmmm, you have a nice start with the 335. The Umfaan is really an elegant little knife. I also like the Spyderco Toad and carry mine daily. If you want something bigger check out the BM 770 or even the 690 (I was told it makes a good gents knife, seems a little large to me)
Good Luck,
Matt

I'm a confirmed Toadie - so, Spyderco Toad is my recommendation. Totally useful, completely non-threatening. A gentleman's knife designed by a real gentleman.

Try the Spyderco Viele. It's lightweight and classy looking and sharp as hell!

Well, here some propositions more to make your task even easier

Some "light gentleman's knives"
View

Top to bottom:
SPYDERCO Tie Clip Knife, really the handle is satin finished stainless steel, here we deal with some light reflecting jokes
KERSHAW Chives (prototype)
CRKT Mirage Titanium
CRKT KISS Special Edition - polished finish, gold plated clip and hardware
BENCHMADE 770 Osborne - here the blade is really black, it's their new BC1 (Boron Carbide) coating

And here some "strong gentleman's knives"

Top to bottom:
BENCHMADE 940 Osborne
KERSHAW Ti-Hawk
SPYDERCO Chinese Folder
CRKT Wasp
GERBER SLG 3.25

At first two photos knives are shown in actual size

Some proposition from KATZ KINVES of basically the same knife, only the handle's material differs

Black mother of pearl
White mother of pearl
Ivory Micarta
Cocobolo wood
Sambar stag

I'll second BFM on the "anything by William Henry." Also, in a size range comparable to the BM 335, you might want to consider the Spyderco baby Jess Horn (either the black Micarta, hollow-ground version that Spyderco is discontinuing and has on sale for $39.95, or the white Micarta, flat ground version available from A.G. Russell). The CRKT Ti Mirage is nice, especially once you remove the clip.

I've never handled them, but the Knife House Hara folders look pretty nice, as do the new Klotzi K22 Carbon Fiber Gents; you can check them out at KnifeArt.com.

I wouldn't call most of the above knives discrete.
The BM 330 is a very nice and useful knife. Light and hardly noticed in my pocket. (Usually carry another knife, also).
Doesn't frighten people when you take it out.
Also, I,ve gone through several airports with it, and it didn't set off any alarms, when my wife's keys did.

JB, you get pics of that Belladonna and get back here with 'em, you hear? Damn your hide.

Well, the very earliest I will even possibly get it in my possession is a week from today. Then I need to find someone with a digital camera which I can borrow, and a place to host the photos. But it'll be worth the wait, Vel. It's really a beautiful little knife.

It may not have the "classic" gentleman's look, but how about the Cuda EDC? It's a pretty friendly looking, light and small knife, although it does actually have a decent sized blade.

If you are in Europe, you might find it easier to get one of the Laguiole pocketknifes. Very elegant for everything from eating cheese to trimming sticks for the fire. Also very socially acceptable. Not one-handed openers, though.

Mr. Mitin covered most of my suggestions. But here's a short list.

CRK Umfaan
CRKT Mirage Titanium
BM770 Osborne
WM Lancet

The Mirage is the smallest and lightest.

The Spyderco Mouse and Almite Walker are two nice gentlemen's knives. The Case Mini Copperlock is a traditional looking knife that makes a great gentlemen's blade. The new Terzoula Park Avenue by Benchmade would be fine also.

There are so many.

Starting below from the $60 price point and going up to $400 and $1000:

Spyderco Jess Horn & Calypso.
Benchmade 450 Park Avenue
Benchmade 942 Osborne.
William Henry stuff is very nice.
Small Sebenza (Umfaan is too small for me)
Joel Chamblin 3" Maverick
Dave Broadwell Springbok

Search engines (I kinda like Google) will find you pics of all...

I'm supprised I haven't seen the Spyderco Dragonfly mentioned yet (yes I could have missed it). I'm talking about the all steel one in the same price range as the Mouse. The dragon fly is more elegant than the mouse as the pins and pivot are not exposed. It has a smooth exterior.

When I hear "gentleman's knife" I think not just appropriate size, but some touch of class or elegance that you wouldn't find on an ordinary working knife. Thus, even at $300+ a plain small Sebenza might not be a "gentleman's knife", while a decorated one certainly could be.
