Disneyland/Solvang trip 2015

Aggghhhhh. Nordic Knives sucks. Bring lots and lots of money with you or stay out of there!

Seriously, Nordic Knives IS Disneyland for me. And for heaven's sake, if you're going to visit Disneyland, take the drive to Costa Mesa and drop by Plaza Cutlery in South Coast Plaza. Between Nordic Knives and Plaza Cutlery, you will have ALL of your bases covered . . . well, other than your Kukri bases, of course. ;)

I've heard of Plaza Cutlery. Didn't have time to go there when I was in San Diego. Probably a good thing really.

I can say as for pricing on what i buy, they/Nordic does a fairly standard $100 over maker catalog price while cutting a 6mth to 6yr wait to zero wait.....fair enough if you want it that bad.

Thanks for the info...I'll have to visit both places, but keep the wallet in my wife's purse, to thwart the temptations.

Window shopping with the missus sounds like a good strategy. :) Seeing all those high prices from other makers should drive home the realization that HI prices are real bargains for handmade knives.

That is the absolute truth....after looking at $500-$2000 knives, the HIs will show the steals they are, without a deal of the day....

I'm only a couple hours south of Orlando, maybe I can make the drive up one day for lunch and show-and-tell!

You can hit the Randall shop in Orlando.....very small operation at Bo's old house as has been since it went from Bo Randall alone in 1937 to about a dozen total folk during WWII....and this includes Miss Valerie answering the phone, or maybe son Gary Randall.....

Now that is a an idea...she'll finally understand that HI is the real DEAL.

She really likes auntie, so that makes purchasing from HI a little easier...:)

I am far more serious about the Randall shop than a retailer of same on west coast if you make it to Orlando....there is no way i would visit that city without primary goal being such a legendary shop....they have a sales counter but do not expect much in the sales cases unless you time it right...they try to have some items and also those which were ordered but never picked up and balance due paid, and if you time it right, quite a few neat ones there....if you time it wrong after a one day sale where folk line up at door before sunrise and phone rings off the hook the entire day, you will be lucky to find the counter not sold....and the facility is not ritzy as Solvang but simply a run down bungalow where knives have been made for over 75 yrs...

Wow! Thanks for the pictures Cul old buddy. Looks like you hit the weather perfect, it looks gorgeous there. You have a lovely family my friend. Your daughter will remember time spent with her mom and dad for the rest of her life. You are a great dad for taking her to that magical place. I hope your wallet recovers ;)

Burned a hole clean through the wallet, pants pocket, flesh, right down to the bone good buddy...lol. It was for a great time though, she was with her friends, and the parents are very close too, so it was great to get away from everything for 9 days, and just hanging out with each other, and the kids. We wouldn't have traded the experience for anything in the world.

In all seriousness, studies show families with 4 or more children are happiest across the board....my own observation as well....while smaller or zero children families have more stuff and more stress....i can tell you from personal experience that anything additional past the first child does not cost near as much as that first one....i hated having only one sister and could not imagine what it would have been like without even her....kids are a blessing and not a curse...and our future....the most precious thing on the planet....enjoy....that's your REAL wealth...

And i thought you had one child and then with photos i thought maybe two....i think women often are the same for sons, just gaga over them....we used to joke that with the first child when the pacifier hits the floor you run it through an autoclave, the second child pacifier gets rinsed under hot water, and the third you just wipe the pacifier off on a pants leg and know you are good to go....

Well, at least I don't need to worry too much, she's got a lot of "uncles" here on BF, and we're all over the place, even internationally, so the "wolves" better be on their best behavior with my little lady.

You have a beautiful family cul ....
The trip looks like it was a blast!!!.... I plan on taking my 2 daughters as soon as I can free up some time,, and I've got south Texas covered for you bud
