Dissuading cats from my flower bed...

You can do what my Dad taught us to do , low powered air rifle (bb's or pellets)
He had this old Italian air rifle that shot just hard enough to sting ya , that worked great on the cats and they didnt come back , worked okay on those noisyass Blue-Jays too.

yep, 500fps air rifle or decent slingshot. the neighbours have a couple cats... they don't come into our yard.

dumb animals, but they do remember getting paws shot while walking on the fence... funny as hell, odd noise and it falls over sideways onto the lawn, limps away

City ord prohibits air gun, so the Gamo is out...

Front bed, so slingshot would be too visible.

Thanks for the ideas though....

Think I'm gonna try the granules mentioned early on.

i can't believe you'd sound razz for getting rid of the cats and every one is so pc with the cat owners. just take them to the pound, very rarely will you have to trap them again. it's hard on the critter and they slowly starve
if you let them go someplace else. i've had cats, they were pets not pests and never left my yard. my neighbors didn't need to concern themselves
with pet/pests. be a responsible owner, don't piss off your neighbors and
get your animals killed. it's no fun to do the responsible thing w/ a neighbors pet. $0.02

Buy some ammonia and get some 35mm film canisters. Punch some holes in the canister lids, then put some ammonia in each one and place them throughout your yard. After a week or two you should never see another cat in your yard again (because they think that you have something BIG peeing around there, now).

Can you say f-e-l-o-n-y

It's only a felony , if you get caught ;)

I hear ya though and thanks for the heads up , on the same note it should be a crime for people to not watch thier cats/dogs , I for one am done with cat pee ruining my truck rims , cats in my complex get a swift call to the pound or a good boot , whichever is more convenient. :)

Scattering moth balls about the garden is still the easiest solution, the odour repells them because cats have a sensitive sense of smell.

Where I live is it a violation of the county code to let a dog roam but it is OK to let cats roam. My county is rural rapidly being converted to suburbs - I wonder if the law will change with the changing character of the county.

Our neighbour uses some sort of ultra-sonic emitter which he claims works well.

can you say animal abuse..... its a cat man.... to shoot it cause it lives is just plain wrong..... deal with the problem, dont harm it.

Its just like spanking a child, they will learn.

You ever try to catch a cat that doesnt want to be caught ? Am I supposed to put mothballs and cayanne pepper on my rims ?
The arguement about cats is pretty played out on different forums I've been in , the bottom line is , yea the cat is somewhat innocent , if you believe the "dumb animal" thing , the owner should be watching out for it but , they Dont ! Not many do , too many cat owners are complacent to let thier stinky pets roam wherever , peeing and crapping on other people's property , cat spray is a horrid smell ! ever had your car interior sprayed ? What are you gonna do , sue the owners ? lol...
I have no desire to actually kill a cat , I am very allergic to them but I dont hate them. A low powered air gun is only going to "reach out and touch" a cat , not hurt it.
Aim for the hindquarters and you will have taught it a lesson it wont forget.

Animal abuse is letting your cats run wild , screwing other cats thus creating unwanted kittens , thus perpetuating the problem to the point they have to exterminated , responsible pet owners do not act like that and should be commended for keeping thier pets in check.
Animal abuse is your cat pissing on my rims and ruining them , thus creating people who hate your cat to the point where they want to kick it into next year.
gimme a break...

My mom recues kittens from a shelter. she always has a ton of work to do. There are far too many cats floating around.

I have a possum that lives in my neighborhood, that pisses on things, and lives under houses. I also have a cat or 2 that live under various houses in my nieghborhood. what is the difference? Possums are ugly, and cats are cute. They're both rodents.

LOL , no , dont usually catch them in the act and bird poop washes off as opposed to acidic cat urine that etches chrome.
Dont get me wrong , I have popped two cats in the last few years and niether one was injured more than a little welt , I'm sure.

However there is this annoying Bluejay that insist's on screeching non stop outside my bedroom window around 7am every morning.
I'm thinking this bird is a candidate for some "copper therapy".
