DMT D8XX 120 micron stone!

Yeah, it worked so-so. The kanaban had small grooves in it to help hold coarser grits so I had to lap it down a bit. Produced a nice flat bevel and good polish but it was more work than whipping out my Shapton 15k and I couldn't really tell much difference in sharpness, but I haven't really played with it all that much, and now I'm trying to find time to try out the Kitayama and Naniwa Snow White 8k stones.

Should've taken pics, but...

...So I have a Benchmade brand Nimravus Cub pocketknife made from M2 steel and reground and resheathed by Tom Krein (now it has a hollow-grind and cuts much better and its new sheath looks infinitely better than the gen 1 sheath I had and is more practical than the gimmicky sheaths newer Nim Cubs have). Recently pried with it and lot the tip and got a large (to knifeknuts) chip in the edge. I know, you're thinking "Thin edge; brittle steel; non-knife use; so how'd it really happen?"

The moral of the story is the D8XX reground a new tip and set the edge up for waterstone polishing in about 10 minutes.

:D

An update. I still am in love with the D8XX for coarse sharpening work like regrinding an edge. But I just got a few 36 grit ceramic belts for the 1x30 and WOW! They really take off the steel even on full hard steel. I think they are too aggressive for edge work, but I also am not daring enough to try them on regrinding edges.
