Do any bladesmiths actually answer questions in here?

Cobalt
FWIW, I agree with you. I rarely even look at this forum anymore and don't even bother to ask questions. Sorry if I stepped on any toes. Just calling 'em like I see 'em.

MM, if you have a question in any forum that does not get answered try putting it in another forum and you may get some help. I know that if I could answer you I would.

fenix, if you read my first couple of postings you'll see my point. I understand your point and that is exactly what I do.

I think you're having a computer problem, Cobalt. I remember most of those questions you quoted and they all got answers. I just checked all threads from the last 30 days -- three got no answers, two of them weren't questions and one was asking if anybody had a used belt grinder for sale; evidently nobody did.

For some reason even though I have netscape set to check for updates every time I often don't get the latest posts in a thread unless I hit reload. I've got the habit of hitting reload as soon as a thread starts to load, every time; that's the only way I can avoid missing posts. I think you must be having the same problem.

Cougar, my computer has no problems. the threads I listed have not changed. If they would have they would be up front in the order of things.

"DOES ANY BLADE SMITH ACTUALLY COME INTO THIS SITE TO HELP ANSWER QUESTIONS? Or are my and many other's questions so moronic, that they don't deserve any answering?"

It seems like quite a few bladesmiths and knifemakers answered this thread so what's the problem?

On a more serious note, like some of the other folks have stated, there are threads that I have very little interest in (or know very little about). For instance, I have never made a Kydex sheath and don't have any inclination to do so at this point.

Your micarta question. I would never personally want to rough up a paper micarta handle and if I did have a need for a rough handle, I would put something else other than paper micarta on it. I have no idea what bead blasting would do to paper micarta. I know what it does to linen micarta but you are talking "apples and oranges" there.

I placed a post about what steel to use for an oyster knife. Now honestly, how many folks out there have ever made one of these? Not many I assure you but I gave it a shot anyway. I received one reply.

I am not defending anyone that doesn't answer posts, I don't and shouldn't have to. Its not my place. As mentioned before, there are certain areas (such as the oyster knife question) that most makers have not breeched or is not in their particular knowledge base or interest (such as my case with kydex sheaths or rivets).

In light of this, I hope that you now understand that your particular question concerning "roughing up paper micarta" is not quite as simply answered as you first anticipated.

Now, haven't we wrung this thing out long enough?

CLWilkins

CL, I'm not the one continuing this thread, you are. And your right we did wring this out long enough. I said my peace and others have said theirs. But I have no control over other people comming in and saying their peace. If they direct it at me, like you and Cougar have done, I will answer you, otherwise I won't.

"It seems like quite a few bladesmiths and knifemakers answered this thread so what's the problem? ". No problem for you, obviously, and not for me either, anymore.
