Do any of you not have your priority straight because of knives?

I need new work boots... a knife is in the mail....

Happens all the time. I'm way beyond a "need" to cut things, and like the OP I feel darn proud of myself when I sacrifice a knife for something more practical. Even if it's another luxury item, like a new watch.

Luckily, it's just wifey and me right now. Things will change big time once we have kids.

I'm not paying off my debt (house and student loan) as quickly as David Ramsey would like but I'm not buying as many knives as I would like either. ;)

As I get older, 55, and find myself nearing retirement, in 5 years, I have been funding a retirement account to supplement my retirement account I have with the company I work. This takes precedence over knives, and a gun or two.

After I got divorced in 2006, I sat down and began to set a stricter budget. The job I have pays well enough that I can enjoy buying a few knives. I'm not rich by any means, but I make do. Bills always come first, followed by savings/ret. account, gifting, and then my monthly requirements. What I have left over I count as my "play money"! Sometimes I will save for a month or two to get a costly item, as I did this past month when I picked up 4 knives, and my 1st handgun in m0re than 10 years, a Beretta 92A1. Like some others have said, I don't spend a lot of money on alcohol, maybe a six pack of beer 2 or 3 times a year, and a bottle of Bushmills Black Bush Irish whiskey once a year! Best damn whiskey I've ever drunk.

Anyway I love my hobby and with no one to answer too now, I can do things exactly how I want them done, and I do!!

not important stuff but i am sure i would be better off saving the money or buying an investment like gold or adding to an investment property fund.
