Sorry to rain on your parade. $64 for such a beat up Grip is at best just OK IMO. Adding 20 some bucks I'd get a brand new spyderco K390 Delica wharnie.Paid $60 for it. I guess $64 after tax. But still a hell of a score. After a day already scouring the internet to find another. Most are $100+ used. Them being discontinued doesn’t help.
And yea yea. I’d prefer non serrated ideally. But I’m not so against them that I pass on a great knife for a even better price
Right, I don't know any way to sharpen the skinny gullets in Cold Steel serrations, but in the first place, Cold Steel serrations do not cut as well as Benchmade, Civivi, Gerber, or even Spydie serrations, so I have given up on Cold Steel. For those other brands, the tapered DMT diamond rods work pretty well for both the narrow and wide gullets. But I don't think that the narrow gullets even contribute to cutting performance. David Mary has the right idea.Re. the serrations, my pet peeve about them is making them variable. Some are so skinny they're going to be impossible to get a tapered rod in there. Make them all the same, even if it hurts performance a small amount. That way, we can buy knowing that we can touch them up when needed. Cold Steel is the worst in this regard. Then there's Kershaw, with their stupid convex serrations...
While this is true. I can’t stand the feel of that handle. Not sure why. But I’ve never liked it. Not a fan of the blade. So personally I’d keep the $20 and some change and get this. It’s really not that beat up. And I can send it to Benchmade for a full reservice. But yes. Still $150 new. Used are about $100 on eBay. So yea. The let’s just call it $65 is a very good find.Sorry to rain on your parade. $64 for such a beat up Grip is at best just OK IMO. Adding 20 some bucks I'd get a brand new spyderco K390 Delica wharnie.
Completely agree, good find and price for a knife with a lotta life left. Especially if it’s a user. I’d give ya $65 right nowWhile this is true. I can’t stand the feel of that handle. Not sure why. Sure the blade coating is worn in some places. There’s a little paint on a scale. But the blade is in good condition with plenty of life left. Some of us do use knives. Not just display them. While I do have some limited and display knives. This is a edc worker.
You’re welcome.Edited pics. Thank youDavid Mary
Same here!I once found and bought a ceramic stone shaped specifically for them. That being said, I was not able to use it to any great effect, and got rid of it along with my serrated Cold Steels.
Because the plates will dull the knife but the concave of the serrations never touches the ceramic plate so something stays sharp.Trivia question. Why serrations on steak?
Kinda joking. But after getting this one. Even after only a couple days. I love it. I want 3 in my pocketI'd love to know how many Griptilians are out there in pockets. It has to be a crazy number. It's a classic.
I'm here for the Reeses!I'm just here for the serration shame.
The original image contains someone's real name and phone number. Might want to go back and blur that out, or just delete it and upload a different pic. If it is really a Lowe's customer and you work there, you could be in some deep shit for sharing a customer's Personally Identifiable Information. At work with a broken wing. Got out on desk duty. So get to see the other side of Back End Delivery.
But I picked this little guy up at a pawnshop. A Benchmade 555. And damn I love everything about it. The side, blade shape, thumb hole, it may be MY perfect EDC. I’m not usually too wild about serrations. But I kind like this one. On the quest to grab more!
I called him, he didn’t mind. He’s ordering a new griptillian tonight! The original image contains someone's real name and phone number. Ok, no worries. Ok to dox yourself if you want to, just didn't want him getting wrongside up with his employer for a simple mistake.I called him, he didn’t mind. He’s ordering a new griptillian tonight!
A sharp plain edge will do everything a serrated edge will and be MUCH easier to resharpen.
