Do I need a delica?

So I love spyderco, with out a doubt my favorite brand. I have a manix 2, Pm2, yojimbo 2, dragonfly, and a Byrd hawkbill. I was wondering if I really needed a delica 4, I know it's a supposed must have, but I just can never bring myself to pull the trigger on the delica. So should I swallow the bullet and get it, or is there something else that would be a better addition to the family? Thanks for your help fellow spyderfiends

Do you NEED a Delica? Probably not. Do you WANT a Delica? You might...and only you can say just how much you want it, if you do.
Personally, I'm not a fan of back locks; so the Delica isn't even a consideration - regardless of how great other people think it is. Remember, you're buying knives that appeal to you; why even ask if you should get something?

(Since you did ask, get something from the Sage series - I'm partial to the Sage 2 - or a Domino)

Yes you do need one .
Better value for money you will not find .
It's all I carry now , even though it costs a bit more the ZDP189 is my favourite , but the Standard VG10 is still an outstanding knife .
I bought my first one after a lot of consideration , I was a dedicated frame lock - liner lock guy and lockbacks were always laughed at and treated with distain , but the Delica changed all that and my attitude has reversed .
I own 4 different versions now and have a couple more coming in the post .
If I sound like I'm the Delicas biggest fan , Its because I probably am .

Now I mostly own back locks.

I prefer the blade length on the endura. I owned an endura first, so now the delica feels too small. I also feel the endura carries better. YMMV

Getting one messes you up. It's a lesser knife than alot of knives out there but... Its one of the few perfect size do 90% of regular knife things on the market. It's super easy to edc vs say a Southard.

No you don't need a Delica ~~ you need two or three Delica's at least.! Get one and you will get more as there are so many different Steels and Colors that one just won't do.! (( harronek --- when you get over 14 of the Delicas you probably will be the biggest fan but unless someone has more than 13 then I guess I am ~~ luv me Spidies.**** ))

Got my first last week and it hasn't left my pocket since. Great knife. Light and thin with a really nice blade shape and thickness (for me). Slices and cuts really well and locks up tight. Mine is a bit stiff but I prefer that to loose on a new knife. Excellent knife regardless of price but especially for what they cost.

There is a reason that the Delica and Endura are Spyderco's top sellers.

There have been many usurpers to my pocket throne but the Delica ZDP continues to reclaim it's rightful place from these pretenders.

I was in the same boat as you a few months ago. Had other Spyderco's and figured due the the feedback a delica 4 was a must have. So I ordered one..... Along with a Chaparral and Sage 1 shortly after.

I put the delica back for sale 3 days after getting it. Not saying it was a bad knife. But compared to the Sage 1, Chaparral and IMO even the DF2 I just didn't see myself using the delica unfortunately. It was a nice knife but I like to use what knives I own and I cannot keep some of my other Spyderco's out of my pocket. Especially when I also had a PM2 and now a Manix 2 S110V.

If your interested in something between your DF2 and PM2 the Chaparral is a knife that carries a similar size to the DF2 folded, but with a blade similar to the Delica 4 and close in weight. It's got a great blade too for slicing and holds an edge a long time.

My Delica is my all time favorite pocket knife, especially since I got it on Amazon for $55, that's pretty cheap compared to other spyderco models.

You should get one. I carry one deep pocket and an Endura clipped out which I switch out with a Manix 2 LW.
They are fantastic knives with the VG10 blade, don't know much about the other types of steel.

I have had several pm2s, Manix 2, Manix 2 XL, endura, endura stainless, military, ti military, etc... The little blue delica 4 ffg is the knife I carry the most.

Well I guess I do need one then. Thank you for twisting my arm.

I got all the nicer ones first like pm2, manix, sage, Millie, etc. It was years before I picked up a Delica...I just couldn't see what the fuss was about. I finally got one and now it gets more carry time than any of them.

If you have smaller hands or just want a small knife, consider an older delica clipit or delica 2. Has less awkward hump on the back of the knife. If you get a delica 4 though there are so many options: color, blade shape, blade STEEL. I have 2 super blue delicas and a serrated G2 and they are all amazing.

I agree, I didn't understand the draw of the Delica until I got one for myself. For me, the blade shape is what makes it special.
