Like harroneck i have just received my Kahr Arms Delica 4 and so far am really pleased with it, i tend to prefer small knives, so to have a short blade in a full size handle is a real treat, i am now searching out a low carry clip to make it less visible in the pocket. In answer to your question "Do i need a Delica" of course you dont but you would be sadly remiss if you did not get at least one.
I've carried mine now for a few days at work , and it is really growing on me .
It's surprising how a handful of alterations to the standard Delica can transform it into a totally different knife .
The shorter blade doesn't seem to be an issue for me and the familiar Delica handle shape means there is no relearning needed to use and open the knife .
Even though the original idea for the blade alteration wasn't meant to be a " work " knife it has turned out that way by default , and I had an interesting comment from a lady yesterday at work who asked if she could borrow my " box cutter " that she saw me using earlier .
To her untrained eye it was a utility work knife , not a threatening ninja weapon .
So here a some of my observations so far .
Blade shape and grind make it seem solid and sturdy and is very handy for general tasks , but the shorter length and grind don't make it as good a slicer as the FFG standard blade . This is not an issue for me because slicing isn't a large part of what I need a knife for at work .
The lack of jimping on the blade is not an issue for me and in some ways makes it more comfortable , this surprises me .
The satin finish on the blade and clip I really like , but there are already some minor scratches on the blade from some rough treatment I gave it on Monday . I have purposely not shied away from using this knife hard , so these marks on the blade should be expected .
The rounded blade spine ( similar to the rounded Seb spine ) on the tip section of the blade is great and I only wish that it had been carried on for the full length of the spine only because it is a feature that I really like on knives and it adds a touch of class and comfort in my opinion ..
The only problem I have noticed with the Kahr so far is the pocket clip .
It has sideways movement that none of my other Delicas have , I've tightened it as much as I dare but it is still there .
All I can assume is that the holes in the clip are bigger and don't secure it as well . It doesn't really effect the usability of the knife , but it is a slight annoyance so I will try to sort that out this weekend .
I really like this Kahr and it is a great addition to my little Delica collection . Spyderco have produced a great work knife , even if that wasn't their original intention and I think this may stay in my pocket ( at work ) for a while longer .
