Do I need to experience a PM2?

Is the PM2 a must-have for a true knife nerd?

PM2 is definitely a gotta-own blade.

As a matter of fact, shoot me a PM. I have an offer you can't refuse. ;)

The PM2 isn’t small or light, it certainly doesn’t disappear in your pocket and for my tastes, it’s too big to be comfortably “fidget-friendly”. Still--IMO it’s one of Spyderco’s all-time classics, an industry standard and a decent workhorse. I've taken mine on a lot of hikes and camping trips in a belt-mounted wet-formed leather pancake holster.

It doesn’t cost a fortune, either. We’re not talking about a Shirogorov/Thorburn/Grimsmo price level here and buying a PM2 won’t slam you into an austerity budget for the next six months, so treat yourself. If you do, I doubt you’ll regret having done so.

I sold/traded ALL of my PM2s for Para 3s. I like it that much. While the PM2 is a nice knife, the overall size just doesn't work for me and my needs. But I still liked the overall design and lock. Hence, why I love my Para 3s. Oh yeah, and my Sage 5. IMHO, a lot of guys buy the PM2 just based on the hype, and feel like they have to like it because it's so popular. (the same can be said of the Benchmade 940/943).

Get one and try it. If you like it, fantastic! If not, no harm. Try the Para 3.

Meh. They're nice, I've had a few. I very much like Spyderco folders. The PM2 won't do much any other comparable 3.5" folder couldn't, and there are a great many comparable 3.5" folders in that price range.

It's a good knife for fidgeting. I have several, but they are not my favorite Spydercos. If you buy one, get a steel that's hard to find in Spydercos otherwise, like Maxamet, Rex 45, M390, etc., will make resell easier.

Now, if you want another knife that is much more useful (IMHO), get yourself a Military. :) If you need to try a compression lock, the Carribean would be my first choice.

The PM2 is a great knife, just not my thing. I've owned a couple, I may still have one in a box somewhere, not sure.

As popular as the PM2 is, you might have got a broader set of responses somewhere other than the Spyderco forum. Maybe the next step would be to go to Buck forum and ask if the 110 is any good...

Haha. I get what you are saying. I posted in the Spyderco forum for fear of being reprimanded for posting in the wrong sub.

Spyderco models come and go but the PM2 has endured - there's a reason for that. They don't cost a lot, they're good tools and they come in a variety of flavors :D. No knife will check every box, but the PM2 checks enough to warrant owning one. I own two (S35VN and CTS-204P) because they're inexpensive classics.

I'm somewhere between it's "overated" and "you got to have at least 1."

At last count, there were 80 Spyders in my collection (mostly folders), including the Para Military 2 and Para 3 both in standard G10/S30V; neither of which is a favorite of mine.

If you like the LW Manix2 you've already got, you don't "need" a PM2. I've got a regular Manix 2 and XL (both also in G10/S30V) and prefer the Manix2 to the PM2 because it has a larger leaf sized blade w/a choil that fits/feels much better in my hand than the PM2 does. On the other hand, I like variety and the PM2 is different than the Manix and its worth buying just 1 to appreciate the differences between the 2.

There's always a market for used PM2s, so it's a low risk purchase and you shouldn't lose much (if any) $ on it if you decide it's not 4u.

Meh. I've had 6. Now I have 1. Only because of the M4 and scales.
Super over rated! Rather carry a Native or Military. Of which I have 5 and 6. Carry them all.

Peelply Carbon fiber scales and M4 (or 52100) makes a big difference over the standard s30v and g10 versions for me.

I have a boat load of edc blades , some are custom as well and what do I choose 90% of the time para2. In fact I just bought my 2ed one today ,they are a medium size knife with a large heart

The PM2 is what sparked my obession with Spyderco.
I never held a knife before that fit me so well in my life. Even with the pocket clip there was no hot spots for me in either hand.

I also own the PM3 and its a fantastic knife. But honestly if I had to chose between it and the pm2 I would go PM2. This isn't a real complaint, but I just think the clip is not in a comfortible position on the PM3 as the PM2.

I've never owned a Para3 and just wonder if the after market clips (long or short, mxggear or lynch) are more comfortable on it?

Honestly.... they are a very good knife that many people like. Personally, they are a bit too big for me in the pocket and I much prefer the Para 3 over the PM2.

If you like larger knives, by all means its a must try, if you don't, I still think you can lead a rich, fulfilling life without ever trying one.
