Do I send money back on deal?

I've got a knife posted for sale and it is listed as being for left hand users in bold print. and as a separate line so it wasn't mixed in with the rest of the info. Someone posted on the thread that it was sold, meaning to them, and also sent me the money via Paypal after we exchanged info. This happened this afternoon.

A little while ago, he contacts me to see if he can back out. He says he didn't read it closely enough and that he's right handed.

I was a little aggravated to begin with because no matter how reasonably I try to price a knife from the get go, someone's always got to try and wheedle me out of more. He read it close enough to haggle with me on the price and shipping. I took the deal and received the money.

So, do I send the money back? What would you do? Am I being a jerk even asking the question?

I don’t know all of BF selling bylaws but I believe the deal isn’t done until both parties are satisfied. how long was it before you were notified about the buyers error?
 
I can see why you'd be irritated. I just had a similar deal where I sold a gun with specific instructions on the only acceptable form of payment in bold print. Needless to say, that was NOT what I received, so I sent it back and then buyer backed out. I wasn't thrilled but in the larger scheme of things, it isn't much of a bump in the road. In your case, like mine, you're not really out anything except some time so the right thing to do is to send the money back and go on down the road with no hard feelings.

Yeah, I reckon you're right. Certain things just run through me and gets my back up. You go to the trouble of being clear about everything and it still gets ignored. In the meantime, those who've seen the post already think it's sold because of what the buyer wrote in his post. I'm trying to see if he'll edit that so people won't just stop with his post and think the deal is done.
 
I saw that ad. You could not have made it clearer. It's a shame people get carried away and make problems for others.

We do have a strong tradition of the deal not being done until both sides are happy. So I would say, send him back the money. Did you ship it yet? If so, send him the money when you get the knife back, less your original shipping cost.

No, it's not shipped yet. I'm going to refund the money. I just PM'd him but his box is full. So, I'm trying him via email. I hope he's got the right email address in his profile.

I think PayPal has a refund option that relieves everyone of paying the fees on that transaction. If you find that, you don't even have to tell him anything, just send the $ back.

They notify him of the transaction anyway.

Yeah, I found the refund option and sent it back already. He got the email I sent and we've PM'd since he cleaned out his box. He's got his $$ back now. Thanks for the help!
 
Nevermind... Everything that needed to be said was. Good on you man! Your a stand up seller and it will go a long way with folks on this forum.
