Do I use it or not?

someone told me once " if you don't fly first class your kids will"

Great post !!

I have collected knives for many years and although i still have a fat collection of safe queens, i am slowly un loading all but collections of a few makers that will go to my 2 year old grandson because i want very much for him to fly first class also.

Uzum if you gotum guyz...:thumbup::thumbup:

I cant have have knife what I am not using , I ether gonna use it or sale it.
knife is dead if it not used regularly.

There's a twist and what I consider to be some bad karma/mojo behind the Loveless knife I mentioned in my second post. That very knife was used to kill a man which was unbeknownst to my grandfather at the time, but was later revealed to him by the deceased man's brother. It was a matter of self-defense as it was explained, nevertheless it's unnerving to know this.:(

unless you are talking about out and out art knives that weren't intended to be used at all.

imho: any knife that's been made but not intended for use is pure epic PHAIL.

if i was ever in a position to drop a couple of grand on some sculpted work of art that just happens to have a blade to cut things with, I for one would use regularly, if for no other reason than using it is an opportunity to once again admire it.

form should complement function. when form overtakes function you are left with the aforementioned PHAIL.

Yeah, I can definitely see how that would be pretty heavy. You know, just having that knife around could be bad juju. You should definitely give it to me. :D

 WOAH! You're right - that's some powerful voodoo right there...

Those that own sentimental value, I use the most. My first knife was a SAK my dad gave to me, that he had used for 20 years.

I'll have to borrow my wife or daughter's camera(as I don't own one and have'nt in years) and try to figure out how to attach the photos. I'm a little behind the curve in technical matters.:o

I have similar reservations. I'm sure you will get more bold as your collection grows. I know I do. I think relativity plays a large part as someone stated. As your $200-$500 collection grows, some will become users. Either way, you're enjoying the process and working out kinks. Now, lets see some pics of that bad boy worth 5 figures :D

I think what you need to remmember about epensive knives, is that they cost so much because alot went into making them awesome users. Obviously there will always be a few knives that will be safe queens, such as those from loved ones or other knives of extreme importance. Oh yeah, pics of the loveless!

Guyon, I've seen your extensive collection of Busse's, and it does'nt surprise me that you use some of them. But don't you have at least a few that are off limits?

No. If I don't use them, I eventually sell them.

Welcome to Bladeforums, BTW.

Guyon, did you actually split those logs with that knife? I really like that knife. Is it a Crocodile Dundee Special? :)

Yes. That's the NM FBM LE (Nuclear Meltdown Fusion Battle Mistress Limited Edition). :p

It's a monster and has the weight to match, but it sure makes a great splitter.

Though I do make a distinction, it's not the price my measure, but the knife per se. For instance, I have a Randal #1, which is very dear to me, and though not terribly expensive, I won't use, it's basically a cabinet queen. If I had a Busse (probably more expensive then the Randal) it would see more use then the Randal.

Somewhere in the Old Teastament is a command from God that say's; "Thou shalt use any knife thy purchase; whether it cost over $150 shekels or not." Hey, once I read that, I started carrying every knife I bought regardless of price. If I was you, I would CARRY THEM!!:D

I use it but i look at them as tools per say and are meant to be used i also use and carry a glock and keltec on the lower end of the scale but just traded for a usp on my higher end of the scale it has replaced my well worn g19 for edc and will show it

Personally, I can't bring myself to actually use ANY knife that I pay more than $150-200 for. There are too many other "beater" types out there to put some of these nicer pieces through the ringer. I've tried many times to do it but end up putting them "away" and reverting instead to a cheaper(pricewise)knife. For example, my fixed blade EDC is either;one of a number of RC's, a Becker perhaps, or, more often than not, a CS SRK. I know I'm going to hear that a knife is a tool and is meant to be used, but maybe sometimes it's just a little bit more;)

I once did the same. But, I thought I wouldn't really appreciate the knife, and the cost, until I used it. Now, Sebenzas, disco'd benchmades (806D2), Emersons, Randalls, etc. often get stabbed into a tree or used after coming out of the box.

You will enjoy using the $150 knife much more than a cheapie!!! Those RC knifes beg to be used!! I don't think they are happy unless you put them to work. After you scrape up your first more expensive knife it gets easier! Do it!!! :)

Man i use every knife i own--lower price or expensive--thats what they are made for--enjoy them all--:D

If I ever get an "expensive" knife, you can bet Ill get my money's worth out of it by using it. It would be a waste not too.

 my sentiments exactly...if i feel a knife is "too pretty to be used" (and there are many that i have put in that category and not necessarily "expensive" either) i will not buy it...i use a $350 blade to gut and clean fish often; i MADE it a point to use that blade for fishing just to keep me straight on why i buy expensive knives to begin with...

if you are a (true) Knife Collector, it makes sense not to use...if you are Knife User, it doesn't make sense...if you are a Knife Poser; well, you keep the manufacturers in business with all your buying so keep on buying the latest and greatest...
