Do I use it or not?

Why do you collect knives? Do you hope to sell them at a profit? If so I guess its better to keep em mint. If you want something to pass to your kids? Ask yourself this: which knives do you think your kids would appreciate more when your gone-(1) knives fresh mint in a box or (2) knives that you used in your life and probably used around them. I think most people would think 2.

I can see it being a little unnerving but if it was self defense you can either see it as a knife that took a life or as a knife that preserved a life. I like the latter.
 
Don't let everyone fool you. If they had a irreplaceable $10,000 loveless knife they probably wouldn't use it except maybe at a desk to open mail. That is a part of knife history. I'm sure there are some that would use it but I don't blame you for not. There is a big difference between a $500 knife that can be replaced fairly easily and the one you are talking about.

And if it was used to defend someone and he happened to kill a man with it then I would say it is good luck. Had the original owner not had it then he would have been the one dead. If someone is attacking you then I don't see them dying as a bad thing. If someone attacks me I hope to be able to protect myself and always have something in my pocket that goes 'bang' to help my chances.

Use them if you want to.

If you think about it, if you don't use them, you've just paid all that money just to look at them and know that you have them. Not a good use of money IMO.
 
Thats why I dont buy knives over $150. My RATs, Beckers, Spydercos, and Victorinoxes will do anything I'll ever need them too and will do it well.
