Do I want an active duty or a warden?

I'll let you decide what my next knife will be.

I want it for general EDC tasks, I promise not to pry anything too ridiculous with it.

I like the fat game wardens, but honestly.. should I be looking for a longer blade? I know I could pocket carry the warden which is a big plus for me. Right now I just EDC a zt 0200 that I took out most of the recurve. I do not want a BAD as useful as they are, I still managed to snap the boss streets tip off. I don't want to send in a knife ever again, so the more rugged, the better. I tend to use knives stupidly, so as much as I'd love a BAD, it just wont work out for me. A cg ASH-1 is what I'm looking for, only one I can EDC :D I think the off duty/inactive dutys are waaaay out of my price range, so more points go to the fat game wardens on that end.

No PMs trying to sell me a knife please, I have some other stuff I want more first but it'll be soon.

Fatty GW. You, dare I say, can't break it. Mine feels like a log splitting wedge.

As tough as you are on 'em, may I suggest an Off Duty? ;)

OK, all kidding aside, if you like the fat GW's, and don't see a reason to have a more pointy tip on your EDC then you might already have what ya need. If you want to try an AD, the Milganza types are still pretty reasonable and are .190"... Pretty solid.

i really tried to like the active duty, but it was just so close in size to the leaner/meaner series, i never really had one grow on me.

i like the wardens because they are totally different than the meaners.

So I know this is going to get me thrown under the bus. However....

I think you should try a Hinderer FXM. Rick has built the tip out just for prying and fully supports it. I dont carry mine much and dont have the balls to pry heavy with it so I cant report on that. I have pried nailed shut windows open with my XM-18 just to see how it would do.

I do EDC a game warden and I dont think anyone could mess the tip up and mine isnt even a fatty.

Hold on i'll get the bus. :D I'd go with the warden Mike sounds like your kind of leaning that way anyway. Just get a fat one if your in doubt.

Def go with a GW and a fattie if you can find one. the AD is a great knife but i think the GW will hold up better for you the way you use them. the bad is too thin for you as we found out, the AD a tad thicker....but a fattie GW is like a sharpened railroad spike:thumbup: Jeff

I think the FXM is a nice knife but way over rated. I can say this cause I had one which was hand ground by Rick himself. It is also overprice. GW and ADs are great knives and are proven. Can't go wrong with either!

Personally, I prefer the AD over the GW (except for the 'ganza hammer-toned Warden), although it's largely a matter of personal taste. I'd second Jaxx's Milganza AD vote.

While I usually EDC pocket carry a thin .140 GW or SAR-3 in my civilian life, I'd recommend one of the coated Milganzaa Active Duties like I carry on military missions - they're thicker (.195?) and have a bit more blade (3.5 in) but can still, with the right sheath, be carried comfortably in a pocket. A .20 GW such as the Muddy GW or Black Tiger would be my second choice.
Good Luck with your selection!

I say go with the standard answer here....

Get BOTH!

That being said.... I like my Game Warden best for EDC. Mine is .14" and works for me, but you might want a fatty!

No doubt for me - Mili AD.

I've had 4 GWs and sold them all (except my Skelly;)), although I did like the feel of the .27 fatty version.

The AD blade shape is the most useful to me for EDC tasks. The Mili version is thick enough to take a lot of punishment, and it maintains much of that thickness out further towards the tip than other ADs.

The handle of the AD suits me better than the GW's, too. It just gives me a much more positive grip on the knife.

if you're considering carrying an AD or Meaner, why not a Badger of some sort? It's closer to the ASH1 you like anyway, not much longer than the others - though definitely wider.

like this (I think there are DC/black canvas ones from a Ganza or show that aren't too terribly expensive):

or this (if you want to go old school, especially if you don't mind A2):

or this (what are these exactly? euro badgers?):

I find that comparison shots like this help:

If you must go small, a GW or those big-choil HACKSs. I find the ADs and Meaners too long to be truly small.

.

Just in case your serious, thems my Badger E handles. The stripped one is my all time favorite field knife, skinning and processing was a breeze. I dont know what Jerry did different back then but I didn't have to sharpen it once during a particularly large pig, the fur is like sand paper and will dull a good knife in no time. None of my Newer Busse's held up near as well.

That said, a Badger is a large knife and I wouldn't edc it, but I do edc a Heavy Duty (Active Duty variant) and still get some funny looks at times.
