DO NOT DEAL with Alphabravo!

First of all, let me say that from the day I've joined bladeforums in January of 2007, my experiences here have been very positive. I do hope that anyone reading this little history will understand that this is one small issue, and is not intended to reflect negatively on Bladeforums as a whole.

I've had many, many deals through the selling & trading forums, and for the most part, all have gone well.

Part I:
January & February: Alphabravo & I had a trade deal confirmed, where he would send a waved Delica for my waved Endura. I had made clear that there was an issue with my waved Endura, in that the lockbar did not sit flush. (Lockup was fine, no issue with functionality; it just didn't feel quite flush in the open & locked position.) He was to ship the waved Delica around the same time I shipped. I shipped the waved Endura, but never received the waved Delica. After I emailed him, he said he'd had mail delivery stopped, due to the snowstorms there. I understood his situation, and didn't make an issue of the delay.

Later, he had received my waved Endura, and instead of sending the waved Delica, he sent my waved Endura back. Okay, I'm glad to have a knife back, but I thought we had agreed to a trade? I guess he just wanted to inspect the Endura first? I don't mind that, but it should have been communicated to me.

Looking back through the emails, it was a confirmed trade: at one point he actually said he would ship the waved Delica out. There was no mention of not wanting to follow through with the trade. However, in keeping with the policy of "both sides must be happy before a trade is complete", I just decided not to worry about it.

Part II:
Fast forward to March. Alphabravo posts a new trade thread, in which he has a Spyderco (sprint run?) blue Delica CE for trade, in 85% condition. With all the distractions I've had of late, I'd forgotten that he was the one that I'd offered the waved Endura to earlier. I offered it up again, for the blue Delica, and he accepted my trade offer.

Again, we were to ship around the same time. I shipped the waved Endura to him again, and again, I never received the Delica. I checked the USPS tracking number, no good. I emailed him, he sends me a "corrected" number, and that one shows delivery to Redwood City, CA; about 40-45 miles from here.

I checked with the local USPS office here, and they basically said the package was delivered to the address written on the package. They even went so far as to wonder why a postal delivery guy would deliver a package to Redwood City address, that had a Concord address on it. The delivery guy would have returned it. In a nutshell, they said the sender either made a mistake, or deliberately mislabeled it. Their advice is to file a claim.

Part III:

I post this thread, asking for other contact info, because at this point, after four emails, I've had no contact from Alphabravo for over a week. He's had no activity here on the forums since March 12th.

Does anyone have any contact info for this member? He had a trade thread up here:
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=829918

I sent a waved Endura 4, which he received, but the blue Delica CE coming to me never got here. The last email I received from him was March 22nd.

He lives in New York. By chance, does anyone here know him or how to reach him?

Part IV:

I'm leaving negative feedback, after reading the responses from a couple of members here.

I've not been put in this position on Bladeforums before, but at this stage I feel the need to give negative feedback for the first time. :grumpy: I've still had no contact with Alphabravo, and I highly recommend that no other member here does any business with him. I understand if something has happened that's keeping him away, but my feeling here is that he could at least communicate through other channels if necessary. (My phone number is in my email signature.)

It's only a forty dollar knife. I hate doing this, but I'd hate to see someone else lose something more expensive. Depending on Alphabravo's willingness to resolve this, I'm willing to reconsider my feedback (especially if there are extenuating circumstances), but at this point it's negative.

I have dealt with him before, and it was wack he would respond quick, but never sent his package, and only gave me bunk DC# like 3 times then after like 60 emails back and forth he sent my knife back.

I had a very similar experience as Chavez556 . Except I got a perfectly sealed box, missing stuff. We made a large package deal, after like 80 or more emails, he sent some of my stuff back .

Thanks for the info, guys. I'm having the same issue here as chavez556 and bladefrienzy. After talking with the post office folks here, I'm giving Alphabravo until Monday to get my waved Endura 4 on the way back to me, or I'll file a complaint with the USPS.

Given that there seems to be a clear pattern of this sort of behavior by alphabravo, IMHO negative feedback would also be in order. It might help others avoid dealing with him and running into the same problems.

Hope things get sorted out, orca8589.

I had forgot to give the feedback at first since I have been so busy buying a house and all but I just left him feedback so no one will have to go through what myself and now others have .

Email received from Alphabravo today, saying he'd send another Delica. I guess I'll see what happens by the end of the week. Still doesn't explain the lack of communication, though.

It probably doesn't need saying but Chris, (the OP), is one of the really good guys on these forums. I'd not hesitate to take his word for a moment.

Chris, I hope you (and any others expecting satisfaction from this member) get this matter resolved quickly. Please keep us posted.

I noticed in another post/thread started by "Alphabravo" where he mentioned he's retired military, all I can say partner (Alphabravo) is that you need to make good with these folks, actions like this are not only negative on these forums but reflect a poor example of yourself and in light of your background you should have enough character and integrity to smooth this over and post a thread to explain your actions. One of these members who posted in this thread is a good friend of mine and a former Infantryman (Army) like myself, I know of the situation he has dealt with you as well and I know he probably did not want to post anything but I'm sure he felt compelled after someone else had a similiar situation.

Okay, I finally received a Delica on Friday, but I'm scratching my head on this one. It appears to be a regular Delica, with bluish-gray scales like the waved versions come with; however, this one came in a box for a foliage green Delica. Did Spyderco do a sprint run of regular Delicas with the bluish-gray scales? Or was this one rebuilt from parts?

Anyway, it's a good, usable knife, but a little small for the needs I have. My son already has his new knife, so I'm probably going to trade this one anyway.

In all honesty, I'd rather have my waved Endura back; however, I never used that one anyway, and after all the hassle I've had with this member and the lack of communications, I'm going to let this one go.

Weird...I don't know of a regular Delica 4 with the same scales as the waved version, so I'd guess it was a rebuild. Spyderco seems to like to keep their FRN colors distinct for the different versions of the Delica and Endura (black for the saber ground versions, dark gray for the waved versions, BRG for the ZDP-189 versions, light green/blue/purple/light gray/brown for the FFG VG-10 versions, etc.). So I doubt they'd make a regular Delica with the exact same scale color as the waved versions.

Also, it looks like your and chavez556's negative feedback for alphabravo was among the feedback that was lost when the forum had issues with iTrader last week. Just wanted to give you a heads-up so you could leave it again.

Post some pics of the knife

Good idea.

Spyderco did make a Delica run with blue scales in ZDP-189 and it was a saber gind. The color is more along the lines of the blue ZDP-189 Stretch and not the waved Delica/Endura.
